Derby Our City Our River Site Visit

Derby Our City Our River Site Visit
The CIWEM East Midlands Branch and Rivers &
Coastal Group are holding a joint event to
showcase Derby’s ambitious and innovative
flood alleviation scheme ‘Our City Our River’,
which is critical to the future regeneration of
Derby City Centre.
Our City Our River is a partnership scheme
between Derby City Council and the
Environment Agency that is about much more
than safeguarding people and property from
flooding. It is also an approach that seeks to reestablish a positive relationship between Derby
and its river and help the city become a more
vibrant and attractive place for people to live,
work and visit.
The core objectives of the scheme are to:
 Reduce flood risk to protect people, property
and jobs.
 Maximise regeneration and sustainable
development opportunities along the river
frontage.
 Release economic potential of brownfield
sites currently at significant risk of flooding.
 Enhance the significant heritage assets to
help promote tourism to the city.
 Enhance ecology, wildlife and biodiversity
along the river and deliver Water Framework
Directive objectives.
The Our City Our River scheme is a complex series
of sites which need to be delivered as a single
co-ordinated project. A proportion of the
defences required will be integral to and reliant
upon new development which will be delivered
over a period of time. The first phase of
construction is underway by Galliford Black &
Veatch (GBV).
A presentation and site walkover will describe the
scheme in detail and discuss current progress
and some of the issues and constraints that have
