Business Energy Savings Program

Business Energy Savings Program
As an incentive to help your small or medium sized businesses become more energy efficient, the
URA offers the Business Energy Savings Loan Program. Under this program, you can receive a
$400 grant toward an Energy Audit of your business and low interest financing up to $50,000.
Most importantly, this will help you lower your utility bills and save money. Based on a recent Pilot
study, businesses saved an average of 15 percent or $3,000 per year on their utility bills!
Additional savings may be available through Duquesne Light‘s “Watts Choice” program rebates.
A trained professional Energy Auditor from AllFacilities Energy Group will inspect your business and
assess energy consumption. You will be provided an “Energy Tracker” report that identifies
potential energy saving measures, rebates, costs and a financing plan to install these measures.
Qualifying Energy Efficiency Loan improvements include:
•
•
•
•
Building envelope improvements including air sealing, insulation and duct sealing (new
construction not eligible);
High efficiency lighting improvements;
High efficiency equipment including HVAC (space heating and cooling), refrigeration,
water heating, and other “built in” systems; and
Water conservation measures.
A URA Construction Advisor will assist you in determining what improvements you would like to
make. Once you receive URA loan approval, these items can then be completed by your
contractor. The URA will return to verify that the energy efficiency work was completed properly.
Businesses must be located in the City of Pittsburgh and be current on all on federal, state and
local taxes and existing private or publicly financed loans. Businesses less than 15,000 sq.ft. pay
$400 upfront toward the cost of the Energy Audit and the URA pays the balance or $400 (audits for
buildings larger than 15,000 sq ft are priced on a sliding scale by size – see program application for
pricing). In order to compare and track your actual savings, businesses are required to provide
prior utility bill information to the Energy Auditor and to the URA for a period of two years. Loan
terms: 3 percent interest; term of 3 to 5+ years or matching energy savings with personal
guarantees; larger projects secured by liens.
If you meet these qualifications, please call the URA at 412-255-6547 and ask for a Business
Energy Savings Grant Application.
