‘08 Tailgate Party
A Big Thanks goes out to all who participated in the 1st annual Camp Lowell Corporate Center Tailgate Party!
Sam Daniels and his sisters, Valerie &
Kim from McEvoy, Daniels & Darcy PC
made the party come alive! Sam’s Special
Rum comes highly recommended! Our
Mesa Office made the trek down to Tucson
for the festivities and Doug also joined us in
the parking lot representing Amerson
Surveying.
We had lots of
cookies & lots of
cheer. Some stories
to share, even a real tailgate or two! Did you
try the Egg Nog milkshake-malt?! Patz
Mead from R&A CPAs showed up with a
super cool malt machine! Thanks Patz! It
was a very enjoyable afternoon for all of us.
There was some discussion of the next parking lot gathering so, stay tuned!
Welcome 2009!
The beginning of the new year has been welcomed on different dates throughout history.
America adopted the Gregorian calendar in
1752, in which January 1st was restored as
New Year's Day. Ways of celebrating differ
as well, according to customs and religions
of the world. People in Moslem societies, for
example, celebrate the new year by wearing
new clothes. Southeast Asians release birds
and turtles to assure themselves good luck in
the twelve months ahead. Jewish people consider the day holy, and hold a religious ceremony at a meal with special foods. Hindus of
India leave shrines next to their beds, so they
can see beautiful objects at the start of the
new year. Japanese prepare rice cakes at a
social event the week before the new year.
Whatever the custom, most people feel
the same sentiment. With a new year, we can
expect a new life. We wish each other good
luck and promise ourselves to do better in
the following year.

Dear GBP,
Santa was very good to me this year! I
received some very valuable gifts and I
want to make sure they are safe. How do I
know what is covered and what is not?

Santa’s Favorite
limit of $1,000 to $5,000. There are also
similar limits on things such as silverware,
firearms, and electronics. So if the total
value of your items exceeds your policy
limit, you should definitely
schedule some items so that
you will be covered in the
event of a loss.
You might want to consider scheduling
any new toys or jewelry on your homeowners policy.
Also keep in mind that higher valued
bicycles are not generally covered on a
homeowners policy, and can sometimes be
scheduled as well. Policies for ATVs are
also available for those off-road toys.
For jewelry, most policies only cover up
to a certain amount, ranging anywhere from
$2,500 to $10,000, and have a per item

Fancy Footwork!

I love de-bunking wine myths. This issue –
“good wine is too expensive for me”.
Wrong!
Even in this economy good wine is within
reach and I am not talking jug wine here. The famous Wine Spectator magazine just presented its annual TOP 100 WINES of 2008
and here’s what I found. Twelve of the wines are $25 or less and a
whopping 19 of the wines are $20 and under. Ok, granted a few of
the wines are unknown to me at the moment but, many of them are
wines from California and are easily obtained at our local wine
shops. Google the Wine Spectator and view the list, it’s full of
wonderful, inexpensive wines that will be fun to share with your
friends.

For the second year in a row, our GBPers conquered
The Holualoa Tucson Marathon on December 7th! The
total distance was 26.2 miles up, down and around the
town of Oracle, continuing down Oracle Road and finishing at Wilds Road in Oro Valley. Tina ran the first leg 6.1 miles, Tom ran the second leg - 8.5 miles, Mary ran
the third leg - 4.7 miles, and Julie ran the last leg - 6.9
miles. The team finished in 4:23.
GO TEAM!
My very best wishes to you in 2009. Have fun with
wine and remember this important tip: Great wine gets
better when you share it with friends.
Thanks and e-mail your wine thoughts and
tips to me.

Reduce your weight by reducing simple sugars from your diet.
Start by reading your labels. Simple sugars, also called simple
carbohydrates, are found in refined sugars like table sugar. These
types of simple sugars do not provide useful vitamins, minerals or
fiber for our bodies. These added sugars can contribute to high
triglyceride levels and heart disease. You can determine whether
the food item you are eating has added sugars by reading the food
label. Examples of added sugars include:
Corn syrup, Dextrose, Fructose, Fruit juice concentrates, Glucose, Honey, Lactose, Maltose, Molasses, Sucrose, Sugar, and
Syrup.
mean?
Not all simple sugars are unhealthy. Fruit and milk have simple
sugars that are nutrient dense, and should make up the bulk of
your daily simple sugar intake.
Take care of your body… where else are ya gonna live!?
