As a matter of right, our students in particular and the public in general should get relevant information about the health of this Higher educational institution. The institution has carried a lot of work for building basic infrastructure facility for the stockholders, that include operating of six room lecture block (cost 70 lakhs) and girls hostel ( cost 1 crore), construction (under process) of indoor badminton hall (cost 40 lacs) and Boys Hostel (cost 1 cror) . The spade work for creation of Botanical garden, up gradation of laboratories ( chemistry, Botany, Geology, geography), establishment of NCC unit, first aid centre, canteen park, Science block park, running of second bus for students, installation of two more filtered drinking water points , creation of ramp facility for disabled are the works that were carried through college committees. Taking note of importance for clean surroundings, several cleaning drives were carried out by the college, that include cleanliness of fecal matter (guano), accumulated (for about 25 years), from one of the lecture blocks. To impress upon the students for the needful, their involvement in the cleaning drive was made mandatory. Two defunct wash rooms, one for girls and other for boys were made fully functional. A massive plantation drive was initiated in the campus that includes 200 mulberry trees, 200 conifer saplings. One hundred tree guards, donated by Social Forestry Department, were installed inside the campus. The establishment of Eco Club in the college, in collaboration with Social forestry department, is on anvil. College carried a lot of co-curricular activities as are reflected in this news letter. I feel pleasure by sharing this information with the readers, and hope that they would share their healthy views with the administration, so that collective mission of progressing forward in the right direction is carried out. I am grateful to Almighty Allah for provided me the great zeal, passions and strength to compile this newsletter. Thanks are due to our worthy principal Prof. (Dr.) Ab. Majid Dar for trusting upon me and letting me to work in such a friendly, cooperative and productive manner. Every person reserves the right to know the functioning and activities of a public institution by some means. Keeping in view the same aspect, we take the decision to inform our esteemed readers through this college newsletter.Despite the fact that our college is struggling in terms of its permanent faculty members and other basic facilities, the principal of our college possess strong determination to take up the hardships in paving and inheriting the better academic standards and making the college at par and repute in every facet. In the remarkable academic session of 2015-2016, numbers of events and activities have been carried out in our college with both curriculum and extracurricular putting side by side. In addition to the regular curriculum the extracurricular activities like NSS, NCC, Intra-college Sport events, Seminars, Debates, parent and civil society interactions added various colors to the academic session. I express my sincere gratitude to entire faculty of our college (both Permanent and Contractual) for working to the entire satisfaction to the students and putting their efforts to make this college at par with institutions of repute at state level. We hope that you will be more optimistic to this effort and will provide your valuable suggestions in improving this newsletter in future endeavors. Dr. Javid Ahmad Dar Editor Change of Guard Prof. (Dr.) Ab. Majid Dar took over the reins of administration of College on 17th of October, 2014 after his efficacious principal-ship from Govt. Model Women Degree College Kupwara. Prof (Dr) Nazir Ahmad Shikh was subsequently relieved. The principal in his first interactive session with the staff insisted for the mutual consultation, coordination and understanding for the smooth conduct of college affairs. The principal also build the confidence within the staff and their pertinent role in amending the college functioning by sharing his valuable experiences. The principal in his first address to students laid stress on discipline, academics, moral and ethical values to prospect their future. World Arbor Day (23rd of March) The NSS wing of our college have observed the world arbor day on 23rd of March, 2015. Prof. M. A. Sofi inaugurated the session in the smart classroom deliberated on the background and need of planting and protecting trees. On the occasion, the Principal of our college Prof. (Dr.) Ab. Majid enlightening Dar made presentation, an elaborate and pinpointing the position and role of man in the ecosystem in the current scenario. The interaction was followed by a lecture delivered by Dr. ShanawazMohi-u-din of Geography department which highlighted the implication of Sheikh Noor ud din’s adage “An posh tel wan posh” meaning food is sub servant to forests. At the end Prof. M. A. Sofi presented a vote of thanks. In the meanwhile the session concluded with massive plantation drive in the college campus in which all the members of the staff and NSS volunteers took keen interest.Moreover, during the last week a total of 840 saplings were planted in the campus which include 500 deodar saplings, 200 cypress saplings, and 110 willow saplings. Words AIDS Day (26th March 2015) Worlds AIDS day was observed in the college on 26th March 2015, under Red Ribbon Club/NSS wing of the college. Thought provoking deliberations were given by the participants. Prof. ZahidHussain, Department of Botany and guests included Dr. Tufail Ahmad Lone from District Hospital Kupwara, Dr. Mohd. ShafiShahid from AIDS control society Kupwara and Dr. FirdousAhmad Bhat, Prinipal AMT School Kupwara also spoke vehemently on the topic. Prof. (Dr.) Ab. Majid Dar, Principal of the college in his message stressed upon the need to observe religiosity to have an AIDS free society. A vote of thanks was presented by Prof. M. A. Sofi NSS Officer of the college. Establishment of Study-cum-information center (27th July 2015) The Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir had established Study-cuminformation center vide notification No. DDE/KU/2015 dated 27-07-2015 in our college. This is a boost to spread higher eduation in this area. The contact classes too were held in the Study Centre. The Principal at the inaugural session, extended warm welcome to students and expressed his will to help the students as per his domain. Civil Society Meet (29th July 2015) A meeting of civil society members of Tehsil Handwara was convened in the College on 29-072015, at the behest of college administration. A galaxy of luminaries, social servants, traders and college staff through presentations pinpointed the achievements, strengths, weakness and threats that the college is presentlyfacing and stressed upon the audience to come forward for healthy suggestions. In the session number of representatives expressed their views freely on the modus operandi of the college and showed their faith in the college administration. All the members vouched to work for the betterment of the college. Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi acted as a facilitator and anchor of the programme. mini-MTTS Programme (July 22-31, 2015) The mini-Mathematics Training and Talent Search (MTTS) Programme organized by Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Srinagar funded by NBHM in July 22 to 31, 2015. The college students participated in the programme were felicitated and awarded with token of appreciations and certificates. In the programmeSaadiaSajad stands first while as AamirAhadPir and Ab.RashidGanie stands second and third respectively. Parents Meet (14th Aug 2015) A meeting was held in college premises between the parents of the college students and college administration on 14-08-2015. In the meeting,the college administration addressed the role of parents in chiseling the future of their wards and highlight the two way process ofmaking suitable environments for their betterment.The principal stressed upon the parents to take note of their activities of their wards and help develop their personalities positively. Some of the parents also address the student’s in an amicable manner and make them focus on the reverence of their teachers and professors. The Proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Prof. M.A.Sofi. Symposium on “Message of Prophets” (22nd Aug 2015) A symposium was convened in the college on 2208-2015 on the topic “Message of Prophets”. Number of students participated in the event and threw light on the message conveyed by different Prophets (A.S). At the end the principal of the college enlightened the audience with his speech and emphasized on the need to follow the Holy Scriptures particularly “Al-Quran”. Seminar on Urdu Language and its ethics (24th Aug 2015) A one day seminar was conducted on “Urdu language and its ethics” on 24-08-2015. The seminar was organized by the Council of Urdu Language, New Delhi funded by Green World Welfare Society Srinagar. The seminar was attended by near about five hundred persons including students, lecturers, and professors. Both college students and faculty from department of Urdu, University of Kashmir participated in the seminar. The seminar was presided by our principal Prof. (Dr.) Ab. Majid Dar with chief guest of the function Mr. Syed Hemayaun Kaiser (Director Radio Kashmir Srinagar). Mr. Mohd. Ashraf Lone and Dr. FalakFeroz were praised for their writings and contributions. The students and college staff also presented their views regarding the importance and ethics. The concluding remarks were made by the principal and chief guest focused about the importance of Urdu language. The event was documented by the Doordarshan Srinagar and ETV Urdu broadcast services. College Road Race (29th Aug 2015) Road Race was organized in the college on 29-082015, in which about sixty boys participated. Road race strated at Kohru pond and ended at college gate via bye-pass. Students who stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd were; AshfaqMohi-ud-din Teli (3rd year), AasifGani Khan (1st year) and AamirMajeedTantray (3rd year). Prof. Mohd. Shafi Lone, Dr. MohdIqbalDarzi and sports wing of the college were present on the occasion to make the event successful. Principal of the college issued certificates, medals and trophies among the first ten positions. He stressed upon the students to take part vehemently in the sports activities. Special Adventure course (26th Aug 2015 to 4th Sept 2015) A ten day Special adventure course-383 was organized by Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam sponsored by Commanding Officer, 21 RR 4056 APO from 26Aug-2015 to 04-Sept-2015. In the event five students from the college participated the programme and were felicitated and awarded with certificates for their keen interest and completion of the course. Symposium on “Peace” (29th of Sept 2015) A symposium titled “Peace” was held in the college on 29th of Sept, 2015. The interested candidates participated in the symposium and present their views regarding the peace.Special referencesweregiven in light of Quran and Prophet (P.B.U.H.).The meritorious students were felicitated and awarded by the principal of the college. Debate on “Contemporary Politics” (10th Oct 2015) A debate on the topic “Contemporary Politics” was held in the college on 10th of October, 2015. The students revealed their keen interests in the debate and present their views of the present day politics and issues. Campus cleaning drive “Swachh College Abhiyaan” In continuation with the regular class works the NSS volunteers and students from department of Geology carried out cleaning drives from time to time under the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Ab. Majid Dar (Principal), Prof. M.S.Lone, Dr. Javid Ahmad dar, Mr. Ishfaq Ahmad lone. The intention about the drive was to make students aware about their role in making the environment clean, greenand healthy. Geological Field Trip As part of the curriculum the department of Geology organized the geological field trip on …………………. to explore the lithology and structures of Kupwara District. The students feel excited to explore the Marble deposits in Zirhoma and the polishing and cutting unit in Batregam. The students also got familiarized about handling the Brunton compass, taking of dip and strike directions and in themeanwhile also discovered some of the important structures and fluvial deposits. Blood Donation Camp A Mega MelaBlood donation camp was organized by Red Cross Society of District Hospital Handwara in which number of students shown their enthusiasm for this noble cause with participation and donation of their blood to the blood bank. Painting Competition Painting competition organized by the college under the theme “Man and environment” was held in………………… A total ……..students participated in the event and made the creative approach and imaginations marked on papers. The first, second and third position was held by…………………… respectively. Botany Subject Tour Keeping in view the importance of the subject tour, the department of Botany organized the botanical tour to………………… on………………… Inter and Intra-college Sports competitions College has conducted both Inter and Intra-college extracurricular sports competitions during the session. The events organized included the Cricket, Volleyball, Kabadi and badminton matches. The students who prove their metal were felicitated and awarded with trophies, medals and certificates during the due course. Financial Assistance The students belonging to economically backward class, broken families and orphans were assisted during the session afterproper verifications of documents by the concerned committee. An amount of rupees ……….was distributed pragmatically among the needy ones.
