External Examiner’s Report
Academic Year ________
In accordance with the QAA Code of Quality for Higher Education (Chapter B7),
External Examiner Reports are made available in full to students. The University
publishes all reports and the corresponding programme responses internally on its

Roehampton. Please do NOT use this form for this purpose.
NB External examiners' reports are circulated widely within the University. They should not

The University has a particular interest in the areas described in the section headings below.
We would also welcome your views on any other matters and space for this is available at the
end of the form.
The standards attained by the students
[We are particularly interested in a comparison between our students' performance and that of their peers. We
would also like to know about their strengths and weaknesses and levels of knowledge and understanding. Our
interest is not only in subject-specific matters but also in general areas such as standards of literacy. We are also
concerned about high failure rates if these occur. In general, what are your views on the standards of student
performance? How do these standards compare with your experience of the sector? Are the students achieving
standards on the modules you have examined which are appropriate to the level of the award and which meet
relevant subject and professional benchmarks?]
The design and structure of the assessment methodology
[Please comment on the appropriateness of the assessment. Are the assessment methods appropriate to the
learning outcomes? Are all learning outcomes adequately assessed? Are the assessment methods fair and
rigorous and do they ensure equity of treatment for students? To your knowledge have they been fairly
conducted? How does student performance reflect on the quality of teaching, learning and assessment
methods?]
The general conduct of the assessment
[Please comment on the way that assessment was carried out. Were the arrangements for your approval of
papers/examinations work appropriate? Did you have sufficient access to all the material that you needed to
make the required judgements? Were appropriate procedures in place for moderation of papers and on operation
of the assessment board?]
Marking
[Please comment on the accuracy and consistency of internal marking and on the systems and procedures used
for marking overall. In particular, please comment on the implementation of the Moderation process.]
The programme or modules
[Please record any other general observations you may have concerning the modules or programme which have
been highlighted by the assessment process. This section should be used for comment on students’ practical or
practice-based learning, including school experience, performance, exhibition etc.]
Good Practice
[Are there any examples of good practice that you have identified and would wish to comment on?]
Previous reports
[Please indicate whether matters arising from previous reports have been adequately addressed.]
First year of tenure
[If this is your first year of tenure, please comment on the information you received from the University on your
role, the Induction Day, and any other arrangements.]
Other comments
[Include here any other reflections that you feel are appropriate and wish to raise.]
Final report
[If this is your final report of the tenure, please add a brief summary of your findings over your term of office.]
