Bearing Solution Saves Time, Cost and Effort
Revolvo Quick-Fit bearing offers a stress-free retrofit solution for paper manufacturer
ISSUE
A large paper manufacturer had been experiencing numerous issues with their disc filtration unit part of the dewatering process which is also used in recovering fibres and process water.
The unit is driven by a shaft mounted gearbox which captivates the bearing between the gearbox
and disc filter side wall. This entrapment causes lengthy bearing changes and even on planned
shutdown, a team of three mechanical engineers can take approximately 10-12 hours to repair.
The gearbox and plummer block have to be completely removed and remounted to replace the
bearing - losing significant mans hours which could be used elsewhere.

SOLUTION
ERIKS Technical Engineers were called in to assess the problematic application, to reduce
downtime and maintenance it was proposed that switching the bearing and existing plummer
block housing for a Revolvo Quick-Fit Split Cylindrical Roller Bearing would be the ideal solution.
This simple switch would mean the customer would save over 10 hours in maintenance time! The
Revolvo Quick-Fit units are directly interchangeable with standard SN/SNL/SD bearing units,
ensuring no re-engineering is required. The angled split housing allows the bearing support
pedestal to slide into position allowing the gearbox to stay connected during the installation - also
elimianting the need to re-position or lift the shaft.

Following a successful trial period,
five other disc filters will be changed.
MORE INFORMATION
The split design also made maintenance inspections simpler, allowing for a quicker inspection of
the bearings, plus when the bearing needed to be replaced a change of bearing and seals would
now only take approximately 2 hours.
