IMAC/STAR Participation Agreement

IMAC & STAR PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT
Students in the IMAC or STAR Academies are young adults and have control over their
education. It is YOUR responsibility to earn YOUR diploma! The importance of a high school
diploma means better employment, higher salaries, and educational opportunities. The staff
at IMAC/STAR are here to help you reach your goal of a high school diploma.
Expectations:
1. Make progress in each class using Nova Net and Learning A+ System
2. Pass the 5 OGTs (state requirement)
3. Reach the required 20 credits for graduation (district requirement)
4. Completion of a career passport or career assessment
Getting Starting:
1. Participate in an Orientation Meeting with a staff member (counselor or director) to
go over the rules, review the credits (earned and needed), and take the reading assessment.
2. Withdraw from the school one is attending if applicable.
3. Complete paperwork (proof of residency, emergency medical, free/reduced lunch).
Nova Net and A+ Learning Systems:
1. Each student will be shown how to log on at school and take notes.
2. Complete all tutorials, practice tests, reviews and mastery tests.
3. Master tests must be passed with a 70% passage rate in order to receive credit for
each section of the class. Notes that you have been taking may be used for the tests. The
notes will be turned in to the teacher in order to receive your credit.
4. Elective credits may be earned through academic classes, or career tech classes
(media, construction, CBI work program, or community service) for both IMAC and STAR.
Attendance:
1. Students must attend everyday unless they are called off by a parent or a note is
sent to school (must include date of absence, reason, and phone # to reach parent/guardian)
within 48 hours or the absence is unexcused.
2. The attendance policy for IMAC/STAR for under 18 years of age is as follows:
a. 2 unexcused absences – letter home
b. 5 unexcused absences – truancy awareness program must be attended
c. 8 unexcused absences – referral to Juvenile Court for informal hearing
d. 10 unexcused absences – formal hearing at Juvenile Court
e. 12 unexcused absences – removal from the program
3. Parent/Guardian may only call a student off 10 times without a doctor’s excuse. After
that the student will be placed on medical status.
4. The attendance policy for IMAC/STAR for students 18 years of age or over is as follows:
a. 2 unexcused absences – a truancy letter
b. 5 unexcused absences – hearing with the principal
c. 8 unexcused absences – withdrawn from the program
5. A student may makeup absences by attending school during a teacher-in-service day as offered.
This is on a voluntary basis and may help from going to court or being withdrawn from the
program.
6. Re-enrollment may occur after a 60-day waiting period based on individual situations.
Rules:
1.
Adhere to the IMAC/STAR Code of Conduct (e.g. no fighting, no stealing, no drugs, no
insubordination to staff, no profanity, no horseplay, no cheating, etc.).
2.
Violation of the technology usage contract (e.g. damage to computer/equipment, use of
unauthorized websites, trying to download profane or unauthorized material) will be cause
for suspension and possible removal from the program.
3.
Cell phones should be turned off in the classroom. If seen, the cell phone may be confiscated
by the teacher and returned at the end of the day. Cell phones should be used before/after
school and during lunch.
4.
Food is not permitted in the computer lab, only in the cafeteria. Drinks must be in non-spill
bottles (no cans).
5.
The vending machines should only be used at lunch time and items purchased must be taken
to the lunch room.
6.
No downloading or searching for music on the computer. Listening to an MP3 player through
a headset or earbuds during work time is allowed with teacher permission as long as it is not
loud enough for a neighbor to hear it, it is not being played during teacher instruction,
fire/tornado drills or group activities. No sharing of earbuds.
7.
No smoking on school property inside or outside for all ages.
8.
Use proper language and volume in the class or hallway. Stay to the right when walking during
class changes.
9.
Taking a test for another student will result in the loss of credit for both students and possible
removal from the program.
10. Hats must be removed upon entering the building (knit hats, ball caps, dew rags, etc.). Hoods
of hoodies must be down once the building is entered. Proper attire should be worn (no
sagging pants, belly shirts/tanks tops, low cut tops, mini skirts/shorts).
11. Refusal to do school work or not meeting the academic requirements on a continual basis will
result in a parent conference for students under 18 (individual conference for a student 18 or
older) with the possible removal from the program.
12. Follow the guidelines established by IMAC/STAR and the Ocie Hill Building for students that
drive (no speeding or dangerous driving). Registration of your vehicle is required. Bus
transportation is limited, but one must follow the guidelines established by the RCT Company.
Prom & Graduation:
1.
Information concerning the location, date, and time for tickets to Senior Prom and graduation
will be provided to students if they have enough credits to be considered a senior.
2.
When the student passes 5 OGTs and has 20 credits established by the district, the student
will be eligible to be awarded a diploma.
3.
Information will be provided to the students for ordering the cap and gown that want to
participate in the graduation ceremony.
4.
Students graduating early may come back to walk for the ceremony in June.
***Violations of the above rules, expectations and handbook policies will be cause for removal
from the IMAC/STAR. If this occurs, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to enroll the
student back into their home high school or home-school program. The home school or other
agencies involved will be notified.
I agree to accept the conditions that are listed in the Participation Agreement and in the IMAC/STAR
handbook.
