1 of 6 wyousif Routing By Class of Calling User Configuring Partitions and Calling Search Spaces One of the most common requirements in telephone networks is to be able to restrict the type of calls that certain users can make. Calling Search Spaces and Partitions are configured to assign different restrictions to different users. In this lab experiment, we will build on the “Creating Inter-Cluster Trunk” lab by restricting calls to the remote cluster to “administration” only. Remember that you create partitions for different types of calls (local, longdistance, international, etc). Calling search spaces (CSS) are then created to contain certain types of calls “partitions”. And finally, certain CSS are assigned to certain devices to restrict the type of calls that certain devices can make. Also remember that partitions are assigned to directory numbers and router patterns. For the implementation to be successful, the following steps must be completed on both CallMangers: 1. Two partitions will be created; one for local calls to phones in the same cluster, and the other for long distance calls to phones in the remote cluster. 2. Two calling search spaces will be configured; one for administration and the other for employees, then partitions will assigned to calling search spaces 3. Calling search spaces will be assigned to phones and trunks 4. Partitions will be applied to IP Phones’ local directory numbers 5. Finally, the configuration will be tested. 1. To create a new partition, go to Route Plan Partitions Add New Partition. Use the same names and descriptions as shown below. When done click on the Insert button. 2 of 6 wyousif 2. When insertion is complete, go back to the “ Find and List Partitions” page and make sure that the two partitions are listed 3. To create a new Calling Search Space, go to Route Plan Calling Search Space Add New Calling Search Space. Use the same information as bellow to create the “Admin” CSS. Notice that both partitions have been selected. When done, click on the Insert button. 3 of 6 wyousif Repeat the same steps to add the “Employees” CSS. Use the same information as bellow. Notice that only the Local partition has been added. When done, click on the Insert button. Go back to the “Find and List Calling Search Spaces” page and make sure that both calling search spaces are listed. 4 of 6 wyousif 4. In this step we are going to assign calling search spaces to IP phones. To do so, go to Device Phone Find. Both your IP phone and your CIPC phone should be listed. Select the IP phone. Put the phone in the “Administration” Calling Search Space. When done click on update then restart the phone. Repeat the same steps to put the CIPC phone in the Employees partition. When done click on update then reset the phone. 5 of 6 wyousif 5. In this step we are going to assign the local directory number on both phones to the “Local” partition. To do so, select the IP Phone and from the Phone Configuration page click on Line 1. Assign the line to the “Local” partition. When done click on Update then restart the phone. Repeat the same process for the CIPC phone. 6. In this step we are going to assign the route pattern to remote cluster to the “Long Distance” partition. To do so go to Route Plan Route Pattern Find and List Route Patterns. Select the route pattern to the remote cluster and from the Route Pattern Configuration Page place the route pattern in the “Long Distance” partition. When done, click on the Update button. 6 of 6 wyousif 7. Test the configuration by doing the following: a. From the “Admin” phone call the “Employee” phone. Was the call Successful? _________________________ b. From the “Admin” phone call both phones at the remote cluster. Were the calls Successful? _________________________ c. From the “Employee” phone call the “Admin” phone. Was the call Successful? _____________________ d. From the “Employee” phone call both phones at the remote cluster. Were the calls Successful? _________________________ 8. In This step we are going to assign the trunk to CSS. To do so, go to Device Trunks Find and List Trunks. Click on the trunk for the remote cluster and from the “Trunk Configuration Page” put the trunk in the “Administration” CSS. When done click on Update and Restart the trunk.
