“
An alternative way of playing match play in teams that’s designed for
women to play in an evening over 9 holes. Rules and regulations for the
League Team Championship can be found below.
The Rules
1. Matches will be played over nine holes – singles match play.
2. A team consists of 5 players.
3. All matches are to be played between 1st April and 31st August in that
season. (If a match is cancelled due to adverse weather conditions
then the fixture may be rearranged within that period. If this is not
possible by 31st August then with the consent of the league secretary
it may be scheduled to be played in the 2 weeks between 1st
September and 14th September. If this is still not possible due to
weather conditions then both teams are awarded 15 points).
4. All matches are played with official CONGU handicaps. Full difference
in handicaps to be calculated as per the stoke index of the 18 hole
card i.e. players receiving shots only receive them on the holes if they
come in to play on the particular 9 holes being played.
5. All players must play the same 9 holes. The 9 played do not have to
be an approved 9 hole course.
6. Teams must play in handicap order; but it is not necessary for the
lowest handicap players to tee off first.
7. The recommended 1st tee time is 18.00. If a player fails to turn up to
play within an hour of the agreed start time then her points are
forfeited to the other team as per rule 10.
8. Points are awarded on a hole by hole basis and a bonus point is
awarded to individual match winners i.e. 9 points for 9 holes plus 1
bonus point = 10 points per individual match = 50 points per fixture.

13. A scratched match will be scored at the end of the season and on an average basis.
14. If a player is absent the other team scores 6 points.
15. If a club has more than 1 player unable to play a match then at least 48 hours’ notice should be given to
the opposition to try to rearrange the fixture. If this is not possible then the club unable to field a team
forfeits any points with the opposition receiving an average of points scored through the season, to be
allocated by the league secretary after the final match.
16. In the event of a tie at the end of the season, the team with the greatest number of bonus points will be
the winner. If still tied, there will be a play off, this will be held on a neutral course.
17. Distance Measuring Devices are allowed for all matches. Trolley pullers are only allowed for medical
reasons and prior approval from the opposing team should be sought. Caddies are not allowed.
18. Immediately after each team has played the captains should complete a results sheet. This should be
signed by both captains and kept until the end of season.
Scoring
The Evening League matches are scored in a different way we are used to scoring matches. When playing
traditional match play over 9 holes it is possible to be finished after 5 holes i.e. 5&4. Through this method
points are awarded for every hole:



A hole won = 1 point
A hole lost = 0 points
A hole halved = 1/2 point
This way there is still something to play for right till the very end of each match.
After 9 holes the player who has won most points gains 1 extra bonus point. If the match is halved 4.5:4.5
then the bonus point is also shared. Each single match has 10 points to be won. There are 50 points to play
for overall for each team.
At the end of the season, if there was a tie, the team with most bonus points would be the overall winner!
