Do Not Be Defensive!
When sharing this graph, I always remind
educators to not be defensive. Nobody I
have ever met writes on their lesson
plans which student is to be discouraged
each day. This discouragement is not
done on purpose.
The “take away” from the graph:
Is not the responsibility of educators to
motivate students, but to determine what
is causing this loss and stop such
practices. Educators have been using
their pocketbooks to “motivate” when ears
are far more powerful.
