The mission of the SLCMAD is the enhancement of health and quality of life through the suppression of mosquito transmitted diseases and the reduction of annoyance levels caused by mosquitoes. Research on the biology and control of mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases plays an integral role in fulfilling this mission. Current operational budget stands around $2.2 million; however, we are aggressively expanding our program and operations to include construction of an insectary and BSL-II laboratory for arbovirus testing and additional molecular capabilities. The SLCMAD is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist the SLCMAD Manager in fulfilling the mission of the District. Responsibilities: Assists the Manager in conducting day-to-day operations of the District; directs surveillance, control, and laboratory operations; supervises full time and seasonal employees engaged in such operations; implements field and laboratory research and assists in analysis and writing of scientific manuscripts; maintains, compiles, and analyzes operating records and reports; assists with fiscal and regulatory needs as required. Required skills and abilities: Must have a thorough knowledge of the scope and subject of entomology, vector ecology, and epidemiology as related to Integrated Mosquito Management; demonstrated ability to supervise the work of others and capability to effectively and cooperatively work with superiors, colleagues, academics, and the general public; general computer skills and understanding of databases; must have a valid driver’s license and meet all aspects of the District’s job description (available upon request) for this position. Beneficial Skills: Previous experience in mosquito control and/or working experience in a research laboratory; molecular training or expertise; basic understanding of hypothesis testing and statistical analysis; a firm science background and proven publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
