CASE STUDY/IMPACT STUDY
“आँखों दे खे पर तो भरोसा करोगे”
(You will believe, when you will see)
This is the farm of Ratiram Jatav, a 42 year old small farmer from Soond who is having 1.5 bigha
land which is somehow suitable for his family. He was using chemical fertilizers on his crop. In 1 st
year of Jeevika he made vermin pit and maintained it very well. This year he used small amount
of vermin compost on his vegetable crops which he grown behind of his house. He has seen very
good result of it and used this compost on his potato crop. He thrown vermin compost in 98% of
his crop and left 2% crop for chemical fertilizers which he was using for long time.
Some of the farmers said him that you did it wrong how and took very big risk and you’ll
definitely get loss. He heard all of them regularly and said I left all on god. When potato plants
come on leaves, they have lush green color and very shiny leaves comparatively chemical used
plants. Other farmers also seen this change but they said we’ll believe when we see your
potatoes.
This month he started digging potatoes from his field and uprooted some of potatoes in front of
other farmers. They all have seen drastic changes in both crops a plant which is grown with
vermin compost have 10-15 potatoes and plants which have chemicals have 3-5 potatoes. All
went shocked after seeing it and Ratiram felt very happy this time and said others that “Aankhon
dekhe par to bharosa karoge” (You will believe, when you will see).
2. Case Study Two
Jeevika Kirana Shop
(A small shop which fulfilling big dreams)
Hello Jeevika friends, I am Sonu Aadiwasi (boy in blue Tshirt), I am in my 22 nd year and studied up
to 8th class. I belong from Vinega Colony, one of our Jeevika project villages. I am member of our
Vinega Ekta Farmer club and volunteer of Jeevika from the beginning of Jeevika. You know most
of boys of my age and some of my natives say that I am different from others and they are right
on some way. When most of our community people only hears and inactive sometimes I always
think on it and take action on it. Before this month I was helping my father in farming practices
on our small farm and living life like others living.
But I decided to change this pattern and I have to prove myself that why I am different.
Team Jeevika came in our village and given us information about various government schemes
available for youths, where I got knowledge about Mukhyamantri Yuva Swarozgar Yojna and took
more information about this scheme from team and expressed my wish that I want to fill its
farm. I went to Shivpuri and finished all formalities and went to our regional bank. Where I faced
bank manager who said we already have list of defaulters from your Panchayat and who can I
believe you are different from others and told that let we’ll see. He thought that like others I visit
bank 2-3 times and not come back. But I mostly visited bank and at last bank manager said ok we
are ready to give you loan, please finish these formalities. I thought now I won. But bank
manager got transfer and it took a month in joining of new Bank Manager.
When new bank manager came he as more rigid in compare to last one. But I
never left hope I tried to assure him I am different from others. Finally my hardship not went in
vain. My loan of Rs. 50,000 for kirana shop sanctioned and I got my first installment f Rs. 25,000
which is on name of Shop owner to whom I have given quotations. I purchased material for my
shop with my father and went back to my village from 21 st of this month I started my small
shop. On first day my income from shop was Rs. 1000 and my family members are very happy
with my decision and supporting me. Now my father also manages shop and we are having our
daily income around 800-1000 Rs. It’s only possible because of Jeevika staff. With this small
shop I am fulfilling my big dreams. Now other youths from my community who laughed at me
at the beginning asking me for procedure and formalities and saying that how I am different.
Thanks Jeevika…
