Course Title: Honors Biology II: Energetics & Adaptation
Course Text: Campbell et al. 2009. Biology: Concepts and Connections. San Francisco
(CA): Pearson. p. 781.
Course Description:
This course is the second half of the introductory biology sequence and investigates
metabolism, nuclear division by mitosis and meiosis, inheritance, population
genetics, evolution, and comparative anatomy.
Course Goals:
1) Develop a research skills to find information needed to answer questions.
2) Synthesize various sources into a more complete, coherent answer.
3) Make connections between skills and content in biology to society at large.

Course Policies and Expectations:
Classroom
-Be on time to class.
-Be seated with notes open when class starts.
-Bring a 3-ring binder for your notes and handouts (with blank paper for new notes).
-Bring a pen, a #2 pencil, and colored pencils or highlighters.
-Keep all notes, handouts, and additional materials neatly organized and readily available.
-A schedule of meeting times and dropped periods is available on the website.
Assignments
-Your name AND class period must appear in the header of all assignments.
-Assignments should be typed and printed PRIOR to class each day.
-Homework will be posted will be posted to the online course calendar each day by 4 p.m.
-You should maintain a copy of all assignments on your computer/server.
-If you are absent the day an assignment is due, it is due the first day you return.
Laboratory
-Follow all lab procedures without exception.
-On lab days bring only

Grading
-Your course grade is calculated using the total points achieved out of total points possible.
-Assignments are worth increasing point values for increasing difficulty/importance.
-You must keep track of your grades in your notebook. Do not ask me for your grade.
-The evaluation of your lab abilities/performance will be counted in your grade.
-Your final grade will be awarded based on the Pingry Grade Scale:
