Year 10 End of Year Exam Guidance 2017 – Core subjects English Language Paper 1: Advice This will be a 2 hour paper, consisting of Section A(read and Respond) and section B (Creative Writing) Section A: Twentieth Century Literature Reading The types of questions you can expect are as follows: 1. ‘list the reasons’ questions: After initial reading, spend about 5 mins on this type of question. 5 mark question Use own words Marked on number of accurate points 2. ‘How’ questions: Spend about 8 mins on this type of question 5 mark question Must use quotes & terminology Must engage analytically with language and structure Marked on level of response 3. ‘What impressions’ questions: Spend about 12 mins on this type of question 10 mark question Must use quotes & terminology Must engage analytically with language and structure Marked on level of response 4. Writer’s effects questions: Spend about 12 mins on this type of question 10 mark question Must use quotes & terminology Must engage analytically with language and structure Marked on level of response Section B: In this section you will be assessed for the quality of your creative prose writing skills. 24 marks are awarded for communication and organisation; 16 marks are awarded for vocabulary, sentence structure, spelling and punctuation. You should aim to write about 450-600 words. Literature Paper An extract from the 19th Century prose text you have been reading, with questions similar to those in the example below. This is a 1 hour paper. It consists of only 1 section. You will need to demonstrate the following skills. Mathematics The exam can cover any of the topics we have covered this year. It will be a calculator paper so you will need to bring a calculator with you. There is a brief summary below. Please note, topics in italics may not have been covered by all sets. You do not need to revise topics that have not been taught to you in class. Area and circumference of circle, Compound area, Arc lengths and sectors, Circle Theorems. STATISTICS Frequency diagrams, Frequency polygons, Pie Charts, Line graphs, Types of data, collecting data, Two way tables, Sampling, Averages, including from a frequency table, Stem and Leaf, Scatter graphs, Cumulative frequency, Box plots, Histograms, Time series graphs Religious Studies Religious Studies: Year 10 Revision Part 1 You need to make revision notes on each of the following topics. You can choose the type of revision notes that you prefer: revision cards; typed up notes; mindmaps; diagrams. For each topic you should aim to have at least 5 points. Remember the more detail you have the better your answers will be. Using specialist terms and names will help you score higher marks. Some topics overlap (you might have some of the same points) Remember to organise your revision notes. You must keep them separate from the work in your book. You can choose the type of revision notes that you prefer: revision cards; typed up notes; mindmaps; diagrams. For each topic you should aim to have at least 5 points. Remember the more detail you have the better your answers will be. Using specialist terms and names will help you score higher marks.
