Dementia Training Pathway for Staff in Care Homes: 3 Step Options to Learn To attain Basic Dementia Awareness Step 1 Knowledge: (Skills for Care Knowledge set for dementia, learning outcomes 3.1, 3.2, 3.3) Please choose at least one of the 3 menus in Step 1: either A, B or C. It is advised that Step 1 Knowledge is undertaken within 12 months of Induction. For Step 2 Knowledge: A blended learning approach using a variety of menus is recommended, in order to complete the Skills for Care learning outcomes (File 3 Admin. information). Once the staff member has gained certification in any of the menus, this should be recorded on the Skills for Care, Dementia Knowledge Set Progress Log (File 3 Admin. information) and signed by the Manager or the person issuing the ‘Certificate of Completion.’ For best practice, it is recommended that the member of staff gain certification in as many menus as is practically possible in both Step 1 & Step 2. 1st Step: Basic Dementia Awareness: BDA Available evidence for knowledge and skills gained Menu A.
