Course Outline
Introduction to The Barrie Banner Project.
We will be exploring themes of the site-specific: the notion of meaning,
memory and personal narrative as it relates to an individual place
specific to Barrie, Ontario.
The Barrie Banner Project continues
Participants: please bring a photograph or think of a location within
Barrie that has personal meaning to you.
Carnegie Days 2011: Zine Workshop
In this hands-on workshop with guest exhibiting artists, Steve Manale
and Mike Comeau of Imperial 6, youth learn about the elements and
production to create their own zine.
Introduction to Stop motion photography
Using pencil as our medium. This ongoing project will be completed
throughout the year. Inspired by Juan Ortiz-Apuy: Disruptions

Explore Comic Art, inspired by the Imperial 6 artists, through the
medium of printmaking (linograph)
We will be creating manipulated self-portraits using the computer
program Photoshop.
(2 parts, second half is on November 4th)
Halloween-themed Youth Council Coffeehouse:
Make “costume” for Rodin’s The Thinker. Create artwork for this event.

Hyperrealist Relief Food Sculpture Project using rubber latex mould
Inspired by Claes Oldenburg
(3 part lesson, please join us even if you are not able to attend all three
sessions)
The first session will be design the actual sculpture using molding clay.

with the focus being Joanna McEwen’s concept of time and change.
Interiors of Place: Egg Tempera Workshop
Guest exhibiting artist Joanna McEwen will introduce her artwork and
lead a workshop on how to paint with egg tempera.
Exploring different drawing techniques by creating an
imagined/manipulated landscape inspired by artist Kelly Wallace.
