Evaluation for P0 (CGN)


What has been done: Start made of
the evaluation of 263 spinach
accessions for 2 Peronospora
farinosa pathotypes.
What will be done: Finalize the
evaluations experiments and
include the data in the common
database.
V Cadot,: 2nd WP coordinators meeting Leafy Vegetables , Austria, 1 July 2008
Evaluation for P1 : (WHRI)


What has been done:
The selected material of lettuce has been
grown in an experimental field plot,
harvested under controlled conditions
and screened for post harvest colouration
following established experimental
protocols.
The analysis of the data has been carried
out.
What will be done: Data to be provided
to lettuce data base manager and WP
coordinator
V Cadot,: 2nd WP coordinators meeting Leafy Vegetables , Austria, 1 July 2008
Evaluation for P2 (GEVES)


What has been done:
P2 started the evaluation of disease
resistance:
- 14 accessions to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum
(by FNPE).
- 25 accessions to Thielaviopsis basicola
- 27 accessions to Alternaria cichorii
What will be done: finalise the evaluation
experimentations and enter the data in
the chicory database
V Cadot,: 2nd WP coordinators meeting Leafy Vegetables , Austria, 1 July 2008
Evaluation for P4 (Palacky)


What has been done: Selection of 30
lettuce accessions for characterization.
Control of viability and pathogenicity of
races of Bremis lactucae, pre-selection of
isolates to be used for evaluation in a
year 2. Evaluation of Lactuca sativa
accessions for response to Bremia
lactuca isolates started in year 2
What will be done: Evaluation of lettuce
accessions for response to 10 isolates of
Bremia lactucae will continue
V Cadot,: 2nd WP coordinators meeting Leafy Vegetables , Austria, 1 July 2008
Evaluation for P5 (Nordgen)


What has been done:
- Rucola (Eruca) material for chemical
evaluations is planted.
- Spinach growing was postponed to
August due to high risk of bolting in the
middle of summer.
What will be done: Chemical evaluations
of 60 spinach, 5 orache (Atriplex) and 20
rucola accessions will start in autumn
2008.
V Cadot,: 2nd WP coordinators meeting Leafy Vegetables , Austria, 1 July 2008
Evaluation for P7 (Arche Noah)


What has been done: First selection
of accessions to be tested for winter
hardiness. Criteria for evaluating
winter hardiness has been
developed.
What will be done:
V Cadot,: 2nd WP coordinators meeting Leafy Vegetables , Austria, 1 July 2008
Evaluation for P10 (HDRA)


What has been done: Material for
evaluation (lettuce) already
selected (all 17 Heritage Seed
Library accessions).
What will be done: Nothing planned
until year 2
V Cadot,: 2nd WP coordinators meeting Leafy Vegetables , Austria, 1 July 2008
Evaluation for P12 (University of Bologna)



What has been done: 30 accessions of Eruca received from P3.
3 controls received from P1 (1 Eruca, 2 Diplotaxis;
3 local controls added = Eruca, 2 Diplotaxis and 1 Diplotaxis
The plantlets were transplanted at Experimental farm, Cesena,
on April 30, on 4-rows, single replication plots.
The harvest of leaves for glucosinolate evaluation is forecasted
for the first week of June. Since glucosinolate profile may
change both with climatic conditions and ontogenetic
development, all accessions were harvested in a reduced time
span, at the pre-flowering stage (flower buds removed from the
earlier accessions).
As the material looked very interesting, a focus group was
organised to discuss about the perceived sensory characters
that could be worth evaluation on rocket. The group met in
Cesena, on 13 and 28 May, in two 2-hour sessions. This activity
could have a follow up at harvest.
V Cadot,: 2nd WP coordinators meeting Leafy Vegetables , Austria, 1 July 2008
Evaluation for P12
 Bottlenecks:
none, with respect to
Eruca / Diplotaxis. Because of the
shortage of personnel and the delay
in refunding, it was decided not to
overlap activities, in order to prevent
the risk of not being able to carry on
the work.
 So, it was decided to postpone the
activities on chicory.

Evaluation for P12
V Cadot,: 2nd WP coordinators meeting Leafy Vegetables , Austria, 1 July 2008
Evaluation for P13 (KIS)


What has been done: Preparation of
the material to be evaluated,
preparation of inoculums for
screening for tolerance-resistance
to nematodes.
What will be done: Evaluation of
the selected material for nematode
resistance/tolerance.
