Expectations
• Be here and on time, every day.
School starts at 7:45.
• Give your “BULLDOG BEST” effort,
EVERY DAY!

Homework
• Primary goal is to develop responsibility and
accountability
• Secondary goal is to provide extra practice on skills
practiced in class
• Bonus goal is that parents can get a nightly glimpse
of what is happening in class
• Assigned every school night except Friday.
• Room 19 has a “No Excuse” homework policy. If
students don’t have their H.W., they complete it at
recess so that they are ready to check their answers,
and ask questions when we go over it in class.
• There are Parent/Teacher exceptions to this policy.
Class
Management
• Our school uses the PeaceBuilder program
• Self-discipline is the goal. Students choose to
do the right thing even when the teacher isn’t
looking!
• There are consequences for our actions –
both positive J and negative L
• Each day is a new day with a fresh start!

Core Curriculum:
Reading
• Houghton-Mifflin (H.M.) is a standards-based
state adopted Language Arts program.
• H.M. contains 6 themes with great literature
and comprehensive skills instruction.
• Students will be assessed during and after each
theme.
Accelerated Reader
“AR”
• Accelerated Reader is an independent reading program.
• Students are given 30 minutes each day in class to read
a leveled book of their choice from a large selection of
popular children's literature.
• Upon completion of the book, students take a 5 or 10
question computerized test about the details of the story.
• A score of 60% is necessary to pass, but students are
encouraged to aim for 100%. Students will bring home a
print-out of their test results at the end of each trimester.

Program Materials and
Standards
• Houghton-Mifflin Math is the California
standards-based adopted Math program.
*Chapters are covered out of order to better meet
student needs.
• X-Games is a friendly 3rd grade multiplication
facts competition set to music! The winning team
gets to host the trophy until we meet again!
Social Studies
Curriculum and Standards
Our Communities is our standards-based state adopted
Social Studies program which is divided into 5 units. The
goal is for students to begin to understand and make the
connections between the past and present. They will be
studying:
1.Land and Water in your Area
2.California Indians Past and Present
3.Your Community over Time
4.Rules and Laws
5.The Economy of your Region
Science Curriculum and Standards
HILL CREEKS GONE SOLAR!!!
• California Science: Our standards-based state adopted
science program.
• Students are involved in activities that use the scientific
process of observing, measuring, comparing, and reporting in
the areas of:
Physical Science
Simple Concepts of Energy and Matter
Life Science
Plants and Animals
Earth Science
Our Earth and Solar System
Other Programs:
P.E.
• Our goal is to develop good sportsmanship while
participating in movement activities that enhance
skills and improve personal health.
• Our track allows our class to walk, jog, or run,
while enjoying the benefits of cardio exercise!
We will be recording our mileage and celebrating
our successes along the way!
Computers
• Besides our classroom computer, we have
access to a beautiful computer lab as well as to
a class set of laptops as needed. The laptops
will be used for special projects.
Students will be able to:
• Take AR tests
• Practice keyboarding skills
• Get extra practice in all curriculum areas
• Research information for reports
• View teacher demonstrations/lessons
Art Attack
We are so fortunate to have
parents and grandparents
volunteering their time to present
fabulous art lessons to our
