The HELP is a curriculum- and research-based, criterionreferenced assessment which aids in identifying his/her unique strengths and individual needs and appropriate services required to meet those needs. The HELP also aids in identifying resources, priorities and concerns of the family. The assessment is administered through direct observations of the student during daily activities and play situations structured to elicit specific responses, and parent interview. Three of the six developmental domains on the HELP were administered which include: Social, Self-Help and Cognitive. I. Cognitive Domain looks at development of the child’s mental processes related to thinking, remembering, and reasoning. These areas include: problem solving, concept development, spatial relationships, attention, reading, and math readiness and writing skills.
