Maths
This term we will begin to partition numbers into tens and units using both objects (deans rods,
numicon) and pictures.
We will use our knowledge of tens and units to add and subtract.
We will also begin to multiply by counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Topic related maths
Measuring the growth of our plants in cms and liquids when watering our seeds.
Religious Education
RE will continue to take place on a Tuesday morning with Miss Griffith.

English: Texts and Genres
This term we will be looking at the story ‘ Jack and the Beanstalk’. We will be thinking about
different types of words like nouns, adjectives and verbs. We will be spotting and using sentences with
a ? nd a !. We will also be using ‘and’ to join sentences and adjectives to add description. We will
then be writing our own Jack and the Beanstalk stories and creating our own, exciting endings.
We will end the term with some ‘senses poetry’.
Trip / Visitor / Theme Day
School trip: we hope to plan a trip to the Eden Project- watch this space!!
SMSC
What do we need to grow? What do we need to survive? What do we need to be the best that we can be? How
do we help others to grow into wonderful people?
Music
The children will continue to have a weekly music lesson with Miss Perkins.
We will also be adding musical instruments to our senses poems at the end of the term. We hope to perform
some of these in our assembly.
Science
This term we really will become ‘mini scientists’! The children will be thinking about what plants
need to grow through a science experiment We will write a care guide to help them grown.
We will be growing our own ‘cress heads’ and observing how the seed changes into a plant.
We will also be learning about the different parts of a plant and describing the role of each part.
We will also be thinking about seasons and how our gardens may change over time. We will also be
learning all about mini beasts.
Real Life Outcome
We hope to get out into the community (or perhaps the school grounds) to plant flowers ready for the
summer. We will write our own ‘care guide’ for how best to look after the seeds, bulbs and plants.
Art
This term we will be learning all about the artist Andy Goldsworthy. We will be thinking about how we can
use natural resources to create art.
Immersive Environment
The children have chosen to have two immersive aspects of our classroom this term. The children have set us
the challenge of making a garden center and the giant’s house from Jack and the Beanstalk. These areas will
help the children engage with the topic whilst using key language and orally rehearse ideas to support
writing.
P.E.
PE with Mr Bardot continues on a Tuesday morning. On a Wednesday afternoon both classes will take
part in team games and parachute games with Mrs Griffith.
ICT
This term, both classes will take part in an ICT session every Wednesday afternoon. They will begin to
look at programming and debugging using the iPads and BeeBots with Miss Bowyer.
