REGENCY LIGHTING PROVIDES APPLEBEE’S RESTAURANTS IN NYC WITH ENERGY AND
COST SAVING LIGHTING SOLUTIONS
September 28, 2010 – Regency Lighting is excited to announce the completion of a
lighting retrofit project at two high profile Applebee’s locations at 42nd Street and on
Broadway in New York City. The initial retrofits began in these two locations by
replacing more than 200 traditional four-bulb fluorescent fixtures with those
featuring JANMAR Series 799LED, Series 739LED and Series 214LED as well as CREE
LR 24 and CREE LRP 38 lamps. Regency Lighting worked with Whitehead &
Associates, an Atlanta-based manufacturer’s representative to the electrical industry,
to find the right lighting solutions for the retrofit.
The project has been so successful at these locations, Mike Berry, Director of Construction and Facilities of
Apple-Metro, Inc. says he is planning to make the same changes at all of his 31 locations in the NY metro area
and the six locations that have been scheduled to open next year will also feature the new LED technology.
Berry commented that working with Regency Lighting made the project “come to life” by engaging suppliers
and bringing the latest and best technology to his company’s attention. The feasibility of the energy saving
project became a reality as all the elements fell into place: LED technology had improved significantly as a
quality light source, costs of LEDs have become more affordable, and rebate program potential was exhibited.
Berry says reduced energy consumption is always part of the operational plan, but the improved quality and
availability of new technology LED lamps helped them recently make the switch. Overall, Berry estimates the
lighting retrofit will cut his total energy costs, and the new LED lamps also allow for fewer maintenance issues
by enabling fewer bulb changes and even reduced circuitry. “Because we aren’t using as much power, we
were able to cut back on the circuitry in each facility which is
going to give us some flexibility moving forward.”
