over St. Cloud State. The Gophers topped the Huskies, 4-1 in
the series opener last Friday as Sarah Davis had a goal and an
assist. Kelsey Cline, Rachael Bona and Kelly Terry also scored the
goals as Minnesota outshot host SCSU, 45-20. The Huskies gave
Minnesota a major scare in the series finale, leading 2-0 after
one period of the game. This was the first time Minnesota had
faced a two-goal deficit in 71 games, but Davis scored twice to
tie the game after two periods, only to see St. Cloud State regain
the lead on Lauren Hespenheide’s first collegiate goal just :49
seconds into the third period. Minnesota scored two goals in
the final 2:02 in a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Huskies.
Milica McMillen scored the game-winner with 1:09 remaining
after Dani Cameranesi redirected a shot by Gillanders to tie the
game with 2:02 on the clock.
In Columbus, Ohio, last weekend visiting Bemidji State took
five of six points from Ohio State. The Beavers won the opener
last Friday 3-2 before tying 2-2 (ot) in the series finale last Saturday, but they picked up the shootout win to gain an extra point in
the standings. It was Bemidji State’s first win in Columbus since
2010. Tess Dusik had two goals and an assist in the series for the
Beavers, who scored three goals within an eight minute span in
the second period in the series opener. The Buckeyes finished
the game with an NCAA record 173 penalty minutes while BSU
had 145. The combined 318 minutes in the game is also a NCAA
record. On Saturday because of the DQs from the night before,
each team skated with just six forwards and four defensemen

while Ohio State was also down a goaltender. Bemidji State
freshman goaltender Brittni Mowat made 50 saves in the 2-2
tie. Freshman Breanne Grant scored her first career goal for OSU
while junior Danielle Gagne scored her second of the season to
tie the game in the third.
Looking ahead to next week’s schedule of games, there
are three Western Collegiate Hockey Association series on
the docket for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23, as Minnesota
State hosts Ohio State, Wisconsin travels to North Dakota and
Minnesota Duluth hosts Bemidji State. In non-conference play,
Minnesota heads east to take on Yale on Saturday and Sunday.
In non-conference play so far this season, WCHA-member
teams have gone a combined 15-4-2 in 21 games against other
Division 1 opponents.
In this week’s USCHO.com Div. 1 Women’s College Hockey Poll
issued Nov. 11, unbeaten Minnesota remains a unanimous No.
1, Wisconsin is No. 2 and North Dakota is No. 4. Also receiving
votes was Ohio State.
And in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Div. 1
Women’s College Hockey Poll for Nov. 12, Minnesota is No. 1,
Wisconsin is No. 2, and North Dakota is No. 4. Ohio State also

NCAA Gives Top Honor to Former
North Dakota Star Jocelyne
Lamoreux
Former University of North Dakota forward Jocelyne Lamoureux
was recognized by the NCAA with one of its highest honors,
being named a recipient of the NCAA Today’s Top 10 Award.
The NCAA Today’s Top 10 Award recognizes student-athletes
who completed their athletics eligibility during the 2012-13
academic year for their success on the fields and courts, in the
classroom, and in the community.
The NCAA Honors Committee selects the honorees. The
committee is composed of athletics administrators at member
institutions and nationally distinguished citizens who are former
student-athletes.
Lamoureux and the other nine recipients will be recognized at
the Honors Celebration on Jan. 17 during the NCAA Convention
in San Diego.
Lamoureux is the second UND student-athlete to receive the
prestigious award. Former hockey and softball standout Casie
Hanson received the award in 2011 when it was known as the
NCAA Today’s Top VIII Award. The NCAA Honors Committee
expanded the award to honor 10 student-athletes to recognize
the increased number of student-athletes, sports and championship opportunities.
Lamoureux graduated following the 2012-13 as the leading
scorer in the history of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association with 285 points in 149 career games. The Grand Forks, N.D.
native earned first-team All-America honors as a senior and was
a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist after ranking third in
the national scoring race with 81 points (35g, 46a) in 39 games.
In the classroom, she earned both a bachelor’s degree
(physical education, exercise science and wellness) and
master’s degree (kinesiology) while at UND and was a two-time
Academic All-American and two-time WCHA Most Outstanding
Student-Athlete of the Year. Last May, Lamoureux received a
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Lamoureux will play for the United States at the 2014 Winter
Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, in February.

program-high of 31 in the third period of play, but could not find the
twine. Lara Stalder had the lone UMD goal in the third period and
three players had six or more shots in the contest (Jamie Kenyon
and Zoe Hickel with seven, Sidney Morin with six). Jenna McParland

preview before the 2014 Hockey City Classic which takes place on
Jan. 17, 2014 at TCF Bank Stadium.
• MSU and UM were knotted 1-1 through one period in the Nov. 1
series opener at Ridder Arena, but the Golden Gophers responded
with three straight goals, including two on the power-play, to claim
a 4-1 victory. The Nov. 2 series finale at All Seasons Arena was a
one-goal game for the first 39 minutes until Minnesota struck for
two goals in the final :30 seconds of the second period and added
four additional markers in the third frame to walk away with a

on Nov. 15-16 as they travel to Vail, Colo., for two non-conference
games at the Vail Tournament. The Huskies will take on Boston
University this Friday and Northeastern University on Saturday.
• SCSU was back at home for one series as they played host to
#1 Minnesota Friday & Saturday, Nov. 8-9. Minnesota prevailed
on Friday for a 4-1 final score. A late goal last Saturday ended the
Huskies’ upset bid over the Gophers as Minnesota went on to win
4-3. Last Friday, Minnesota would hold a 3-0 lead over the Huskies
after two periods of play but St. Cloud State made it a 3-1 game just
1:07 into the third period. It was the freshman showing up big as
Payge Pena shot from right in front of the net for her first collegiate
goal. Freshman teammates Kelsey Saelens and Lauren Hespenheide recorded the assists on the goal for their firsts as well. Junior
goaltender Julie Friend made 41 saves and moved her record to

Gophers at the 13:10 mark of the first on an even-strength goal
by Molli Mott, shooting just right of the goal. Assisting on the goal
was Julia Gilbert for her second of the game. This was the first
time Minnesota had faced a two-goal deficit in 71 games as the
Huskies led going into the first intermission. This was also the first
time since Feb. 13, 2010 that the Huskies have held a 2-0 lead over
the Gophers after one period. Back-to-back goals in the second by
Minnesota made it a 2-2 game going into the second intermission.
St. Cloud State came out in the third period to regain a 3-2 lead just
:49 seconds into the period on freshman Hespenheide’s first collegiate goal, with an assist going to Saelens. The Huskies held onto the
lead until the last two minutes of the game when a couple late goals
ended the upset bid. St. Cloud has not beaten Minnesota since Feb.
13, 2010. Sophomore goalie Katie Fitzgerald recorded 32 saves. She
has a 0-3-1 record on the season.
• The No. 2 Badgers (8-2-0-0, 6-2-0 WCHA, 18 points) had bye week
last week.
• Wisconsin begins a six-game road swing in Vail, Colo., at the Vail
Tournament this weekend. The Badgers open up the tournament

2011 national title game, and swept the Terriers in the Kohl Center
on Nov. 28-29, 2011.
• Wisconsin earned its fourth sweep of the year as the Badgers
swept No. 10 Ohio State on Nov. 2-3 at LaBahn Arena. After trailing
1-0 heading into the first intermission on Saturday, Wisconsin scored
four unanswered goals to defeat Ohio State, 4-1. With the score tied
2-2 in Sunday’s game, Brittany Ammerman scored the game-winner in the third and the Badgers held off a furious OSU attack at
the end to hold onto a 3-2 triumph. During the weekend sweep,
Blayre Turnbull and Ammerman collected five of UW’s seven goals
and combined for eight points. Turnbull had an efficient weekend,
scoring three goals on seven shot attempts (.429).
