At your school/college or a test centre.
Practise lots of questions under timed conditions!
Answer every question, but equally, don’t spend ages on a really tricky one.
Make sure they’re aware if you have any disabilities etc.
Try not to panic!
Aptitude and skills (60 mins)
Q: Under ideal conditions, a tree, newly planted from seed, grows 1 m in its first
year. In each subsequent year it grows 10 % of the difference between its height at
the beginning of the year and its theoretical maximum height. If a given tree’s
theoretical maximum height is 30 m, how big will it be (under ideal conditions), to the
nearest 10 cm after 3 years growth?

Scientific knowledge and applications (30 mins)
 Revise your GCSE science and make sure you’ve understood it rather than just
remembered facts!
 It’s a mix of all 3 sciences (and Maths) so don’t leave one out.
Q: Vitamin C, C6H8O6, is manufactured starting from glucose, C6H12O6. The
conversion of glucose to vitamin C involves which one of the following?

 Structure is important so take the time to plan your essay and avoid getting in a
muddle later on!
 You only have a certain amount of space
 Answer all parts of the question and don’t be irrelevant

which you address the following:
 Explain what you think the author means by this statement.
 Advance an argument against the statement above, i.e. in support of the
proposition ‘a little learning is not a dangerous thing’.
 What do you think determines whether or not learning can be a dangerous
thing?
