Local News Government backdown over ward closure NSW health minister Jillian Skinner and north coast National Party MPs have been called on by the opposition to give a written guarantee that the government will keep Murwillumbah Hospital’s children’s ward open. It follows an apparent backflip by the state government on its controversial proposal to close the ward, with the announcement over the weekend that the plan had been put on hold for further consultation with doctors. But the so-called ‘pause’ on the closure has been dismissed by the state opposition as a ploy to win favour for next year’s election.
