GAME 3 SOUTH DIVISION SEMI-FINALS (Series tied 1-1)
The Hangar
Lancaster, CA
LANCASTER JETHAWKS (42-28, 77-63)
AT
RANCHO CUCAMONGA QUAKES (37-33, 79-61)
RHP Adam Bray (1-0, 3.70 ERA) vs. RHP Akeem Bostick (5-3, 4.98 ERA)
TONIGHT’S GAME: Your Rancho Cucamonga Quakes continue post-season play tonight against the Lancaster JetHawks
(Houston Astros affiliate) in a best-of-three series. The series is currently tied 1-1. The winner of tonight’s game will move on
to face the High Desert Mavericks (Texas Rangers affiliate) in the South Division Finals on Saturday night in Adelanto.
VS. THE JETHAWKS: Rancho and Lancaster had 16 head-to-head meetings in the 2016 regular season and now two in the
playoffs, with each team winning nine of those 18. 11 of those 18 meetings were at LoanMart field, where the Quakes had a
6-5 record. Seven of those 18 meetings were at The Hanger, where Rancho went 3-4. Shockingly, the Quakes and JetHawks
have never faced each other in the playoffs prior to 2016. Rancho entered the league in 1994 and Lancaster entered in 1996.
BRAY ON THE BUMP: Right-hander Adam Bray gets the call in the must-win game for the Quakes. He will be making his
fifth start of the season (20th appearance overall) and his second against Lancaster. In his first start against the JetHawks
on 8/30, Bray recieved the no-decision after allowing three earned runs on four hits in six innings, striking out seven. In his
last appearance against Modesto on 9/4, he pitched five shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Bray has given up just three
earned runs over his last 25 innings. Overall on the season, he is 1-0 with a 3.70 ERA over 48.2 innings, with the Cal League
hitting .234 against him. Bray has also pitched at Low-A Great Lakes this season, where he went 2-0 with a 3.20 ERA in 15
games in relief. Last season, he pitched for Short-Season Ogden, where he had a 2-2 record and a 3.85 ERA in 11 games
(eight starts). Bray was selected by the Dodgers in the 33rd round of the 2015 draft, after playing his college ball at South
Dakota State. The 23-year-old is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
OPPOSING PITCHER: Lancaster will send right-hander Akeem Bostick to the mound in the do-or-die game for the JetHawks.
He will be making his 14th start of the season (15th appearance overall) and his second against Rancho Cucamonga. In his
first start against the Quakes on 7/16, Bostick received the no-decision after pitching six shutout innings, allowing just four
hits. In his last start against Inland Empire on 9/2, he earned the win after tossing six scoreless innings, striking out five.
Bostick has had an up-and-down season, going 5-3 with a 4.98 ERA spanning over 68.2 innings. He’s allowed 79 hits over
that span and the Cal League is hitting .293 against him. Bostick also pitched for Short-Season Tri-City this season, where
he went 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA in two starts. Last season, he split his time between Lancaster and Low-A Quad Cities, where
he went a combined 9-5 with a 4.15 ERA over 21 games (18 starts). He especially struggled in Lancaster in 2015, posting a
5.88 ERA over 12 starts). He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2nd round of the 2013 draft, out of West Florence High
School in South Carolina. Bostick was then traded to the Houston Astros prior to the 2015 season in deal that sent Carlos
Corporan to Texas. The 21-year-old is a native of Florence, South Carolina.
LAST GAME: The JetHawks tied the series at 1-1 to force a decisive game three with a 17-11 win at The Hangar on Thursday
night. After the Quakes took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a Mike Ahmed two-run HR, Lancaster ambushed Quakes
starter Michael Boyle for eight runs in the first inning, and the JetHawks never looked back. They hit two home runs in the
first inning after Trent Woodward hit a two-run shot and Christian Correa added a three-run homer. Correa and Aaron Mizell
each finished with two home runs, and Lancaster had seven long-balls as a team. Rancho hit four home runs, with Noah
Perio going deep twice as well as Johan Mieses and Ahmed. Boyle (0-1) took the loss after allowing 11 earned runs on 12
hits in five innings. Chris Anderson followed by giving up six earned runs on seven hits in three innings. Jose Hernandez (10) got the win for the JetHawks despite allowing eight runs on 11 hits in five innings.
QUAKES TRYING TO MAKE HISTORY: Rancho Cucamonga enters the post-season looking to defend their 2015 championship. The Quakes won their only other Cal League Championship in 1994, in just their second year in the league. Only six
teams have repeated as back-to-back champions in the Cal League’s 75-year history, with the San Jose Giants being the last
team to do so during the 2009-2010 seasons. Lancaster has won two titles in their 21-year history. (2012 and 2014).
PERIO WITH SOME PUNCH: Quakes INF Noah Perio has five hits through the first two games of this series (5-for-12). He
has two home runs and five RBI, including a solo and three-run home run last night & driving in the winning run Wednesday.
DIGGING THE LONG BALL: The 11 combined home runs hit last night between Rancho Cucamonga and Lancaster tied a
Cal League record. Seven home runs were hit by the JetHawks, while the Quakes hit four of their own. Home runs are no
stranger to either of these teams, with the clubs finishing second and third, respectively, in total home runs in the 2016 season. Rancho finished with 152 long balls, the second-most in the league while Lancaster hit 136 homers, the third-highest
mark. High Desert led the league in home runs with 177.
ETHIER COMPLETES REHAB: Dodgers OF Andre Ethier was 2-for-3 (11-for-41 overall with four doubles, one home run and
four RBI) on Thursday against Lancaster, in his 11th rehab game in a Quakes’ uniform. Earlier today, the Dodgers announced
that Ethier has completed his rehab assignment, and will join the club in Miami on their current road trip. The 34-year-old has
been sidelined all year after suffering a broken bone in his leg during Spring Training.
LISTEN TO THE QUAKES: You can catch today’s Quakes game on Fox Sports AM 1350 with the “Voice of the Quakes” Mike
Lindskog and Max Gun. It’s also available online at rcquakes.com, the iHeartRadio and TuneIn Radio App.
NEXT HOME GAME...EITHER MONDAY OR APRIL OF 2017: Last Wednesday night’s game could very well be the final
home game of the 2016 season, with the Quakes needing to advance in order to secure a Monday home game against High
Desert for game three of the best-of-five South Division Finals. Should Rancho defeat Lancaster in this series, single game
tickets would go on sale for next Monday’s game at rcquakes.com on Saturday morning. If this is the last hoorah of 2016,
then we’d like to take the opportunity to say THANK YOU ... to our fans, our ticket package holders, our sponsors, partners
and our employees. Thanks for an incredibly entertaining and successful 2016 season. We hope to see you next Monday at
LoanMart Field ... Go Quakes!
