Self-Installation Guide This guide will walk you through the installation of your Spectrum VoIP phone system. Version 1.0 ‣Step 1 - Product Checklist Before you begin the installation process, make sure you have the following items: ✓ Spectrum Phones (the number of phones should reflect the number of seats in your Lease Agreement) ✓ Spectrum Router (Optional. Please refer to your Lease Agreement to see if this item is included) ‣Step 2 - Locate Your Modem NOTE: If you did not purchase a Spectrum Router, skip to Step 6. Your current Internet Service Provider installed a modem for you when they setup your service. Our phone system will need to connect through this in order to operate. The image to the left is an example of a common Internet modem. Yours may look slightly different, as there are many types of modems that exist. If you are unable to locate your modem, please contact your Internet Service Provider. ‣Step 3 - Locate the Ethernet/LAN port Once you have identified your modem, look for a port on it labeled “Ethernet”. Some modems have a group of 4 ports labeled “LAN” instead. Locate whichever one your modem has. Please see the examples below. 4 LAN Ports Ethernet Port ‣Step 4 - Plug the Modem into the Router 1) Remove your Spectrum Router and power supply from the box. Do not connect the power supply to the router yet. Make sure the router is fairly close to the modem so the cables will reach between them. 2) In Step 3 on the previous page, you identified your modems Ethernet/LAN port. There should already be an Ethernet cable plugged into the Ethernet/LAN port of your modem. If there is not, please locate one and plug it in. 3) Once there is a cable plugged in to your modems Ethernet/LAN port, plug the other end of that cable into the PoE port of your Spectrum Router. This will be the left-most Ethernet port on the router. See the two examples below. 4) Connect the power cable for your router into the Power port on the far-left side of the router. Plug the other end of the power cable into a wall socket. ‣Step 5 - Plug In Your Switch REMEMBER: Not all switches look exactly the same. The image below is an example of a typical switch. Yours may look slightly different. Connect an Ethernet cable to any of the ports on the switch. Take the other end of that same cable and plug it into any one of the LAN ports of your router (NOT your modem). See example below. ‣Step 6 - Plug In Your Spectrum Phones Repeat the following seven-step process for each Spectrum phone: 1)Open the phone box and remove the phone, the handset, the baseplate, and the power cable. 2) Attach the baseplate to the bottom of the phone. Line up the hooks on the baseplate with the corresponding slots in the back of the phone. Once they are in the slots, slide up to attach the baseplate securely. See the illustrations below. 3) Plug the handset cord into the handset port on the back of the phone as illustrated to the right. Make sure it is not plugged into the headset port above. 4) Plug an Ethernet cable into the back of your phone in the Internet port, as shown on the left. Do not plug it into the PC port. 5)Plug the other end of the same cable into the switch that you setup in Step 5 on the previous page 6)Connect the power cord to the back of the phone, then plug the other end into a wall socket. 7) Make sure your phone goes through the Initializing stage properly and eventually comes to the main screen. This screen should show the correct time and date, and have your name at the top left of the screen. If it does not, please contact Tech Support at the number on the next page. ‣Technical Support and Assistance If you are experiencing any problems with the setup of your Spectrum VoIP phone system, please call our Self-Installation Assistance Team at (512) 394-8232.
