The neighborhood socialites have touted the Hatter’s Ball as the bash of the year in the isolated
town of Bloodworth Falls. Mayor Riley White has organized the event in the old Ravenwood
Castle as a diversion from the scandals that have plagued the town in recent months. Of course,
it’s no coincidence the ball is scheduled right before the upcoming mayoral election.
The mayor posted the invite list online, and your adversaries have already sent in their RSVPs.
You’re intrigued and have decided you cannot miss an opportune moment to seek revenge on
those who have crossed you in the past. Now, you are on a hunt for the perfect hat.
This is where your story begins.

*IMPORANT INFORMATION REGARDING CHARACTER ASSIGNMENTS:
Assign your most definite RSVPs and outgoing guests to the required characters and the more tentative,
shy/reserved guests for the optional characters. To figure out who will be a ‘definite RSVP’, it is highly
suggested to send a ‘save the date’ email out to your prospective guests way in advance of the party date so
you can either eliminate those guests from your list who can’t make it (and therefore you will not assign them to
a character) or you can change your party date if enough required-character guests simply cannot make it. It’s
suggested to invite more than the required number of players as any of the ‘required’ guests could cancel at
the last minute and leave you high & dry. You can play as many optional players as you wish and in any
combination that you choose. The optional players have the same materials and same participation level, but
these optional characters are not ‘mandatory’ for the storyline to play out and therefore for the mystery to be
sleuthed appropriately.
What happens if one of your required characters cancels on you at the last minute? First, take a deep breath…it’s
not the end of the world.

NAMETAGS
 the player nametags begin on the following page. Print the
name tags and slip into plastic badge holders with a pin / clip on the back. Or,
you can use a plastic badge holder with a lanyard. These can be purchased at
any office supply store. Another method is to have them laminated (a printing
store can do this) and affix a clip to the back. However, for a more economical
method – simply print and affix to your guests with double-sided fabric safe
tape.

HOST DIRECTIVES
Get ready for a fun time at the Ravenwood Castle with your purchase of the Hatter’s Ball murder mystery game
from MyMysteryParty.com! This party is an exciting murder mystery where the players act the roles of
intriguing personalities while sleuthing the captivating story line. You can never go wrong with a My Mystery
Party game for any occasion!
The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clue cards, slip them
into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to
choose different colored envelopes for each round and you can purchase the exact amount needed for your
game on the www.MyMysteryparty.com site in the Mystery Prop Emporium section. For economy’s sake, an
alternative is to scroll the clues and fasten with a ribbon. Be sure to label the outside of each scroll with the
character/round. In these instructions, however, we will assume you are using the envelope method for each
character, each round.
Instructions included in the
purchased game
This mystery comes with 18 characters. There are 8 required characters (#1 through #8) and 10 optional
characters in this mystery (#9 - #18). If you do not have guests for these 10 characters, simply omit the clue
cards of these guests. If you need to have unique characters added beyond the available expansion packs,
please purchase custom characters from the My Mystery Party site under the Game Extras, Custom
Characters section. Please allow us a maximum of up to 10 business days to complete your request
(however, during the busy times of the year, this might be extended depending upon demand). Depending on
the author queue, we might be able to do them quicker for you but if you are in a hurry - please check with us
first before you purchase .
If you do not want to know the solution, do not view the final round of clues or the final answer key at the end of
this document. For a complete surprise, you can elect the pre-printed ‘party ready’ party pack option from the
mymysteryparty.com site and we will send you the clues in labeled envelopes and the rest of prepared game
documents –‘ready to go’ (this is an additional charge since we utilize our paper, ink, envelopes, labor, etc.).
We also offer mystery props on the My Mystery Party site in the Prop Emporium including a thunderstorm
ambiance 10 minute sound wav to play in the background, authentic crime scene barrier tape, crime scene
balloons, mystery investigation pens, white face makeup for the victim, victim t-shirts, chalk line body silhouette
and even instrumental rap beats as a downloadable mp3 for the optional but highly suggested bonus game rap
contest. There is a ‘Do You Think You Can You Dance’ mp3 track for the Do You Think You Can Dance
challenge as well.
For DIY party décor, food and more, go to our Pinterest Page for this game at:

The game is organized into four rounds and is structured as follows:
OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS: these optional pre-game task cards are to be delivered to each guest before the
party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game materials are optional and do not alter the
mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These tasks are not vital to solving
the mystery and omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way. Also, encourage your guests to view
the Your Mystery Party -YourMysteryParty.com/Hatter website to get them excited about your game (this has
shown to decrease the amount of no-shows to your party).
: Deliver these clues as your guests arrive.
Deliver these clues while you serve dinner (optional) to your guests.
Deliver these clues with coffee/hot cocoa and
dessert.
Note: you do NOT have to serve dinner, this is only suggested and the instructions tell you ‘when’ to serve it
and what to do around the time you serve it. You also do not have to serve dessert – again, it is only a
suggestion. You can simply skip both without a problem and just serve snacks/appetizers the entire time.

Before the party, encourage your guests to view the Your Mystery Party -YourMysteryParty.com/hatter website
and use the free printable My Mystery Party invitations as they have the character descriptions included. This
way, before the party, they can get familiar with the other characters that will be at the party as well as the
history of Bloodworth Falls, watch the game trailer, and more! There are also hidden/subtle hints about
characters throughout the page so those guests who choose to be ‘super sleuths’ can spend some time
studying the Your Mystery Party site prior to the party.

Round one – appetizer / cocktail (for adults) hour begins as the guests arrive.
DÉCOR: The party area is supposed to be the Dark Shadow Ballroom of the Ravenwood Castle of Bloodworth
Falls. This means, any generic party area can be used. In no way are you to duplicate the map on the murder
mystery investigation sheets – this is only used for the story. All you need is a general party area and access
to a restroom/loo/bathroom (whatever you wish to call it) for your guests. In order to set the ambiance of a
historical castle in a gloomy town, add touches of cobwebs and use candelabras to set the mood. Since this is
a hatter’s ball, think of black and white checkered fabrics and bright colors. Misshapen items and tons of clocks
are good items. Playing cards, red roses, and tea cups in all shapes and sizes fit the theme, but feel free to be
creative and choose anything you prefer. If you have time, it may be worth it to do an internet search for
‘hatter’s ball decor’ and find some items online. Also, take a look at our Pinterest Page (MyMysteryParty) for
some DIY options. Optional: make a DVD of pictures of your guests to play like a slideshow during your party
on the television / projector screen (if there is one in the room).

The game can be shortened by excluding the optional activities, or lengthened by adding
more bonus games.
7:00 PM: Guests arrive, have their pictures made (optional) and receive a refreshment / cocktail for adults.
The guests will view the guest instructions and character list while they wait for everybody to arrive.
The host should build in at least a 10 minute cushion for guests to arrive late. Hey, it happens.
7:10 PM: The host reads the guest instructions to the group.
It is optional to have each guest introduce
their character in front of the group. Play the video game trailer on Your Mystery Party for your game &/or read
the game synopsis from Your Mystery Party to the group to give the premise.
7:20 PM: The Round One envelopes are handed out and the game begins. The guests mingle and reveal
the clues on their clue cards. It’s just like a normal party, but the guests remain in character and gossip about
each other’s characters. The motives & story lines will start to unveil.
7:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played. Bonus activities keep the energy flowing and the guests
have a blast. They are optional, but highly suggested. The players must remain in character.
8:05 PM: Optional to serve dinner. Dinner can be sit down or buffet – or even as simple as a pizza that’s
delivered! You can also just serve appetizers/snacks during the party.
8:35 PM: The Round Two envelopes are handed out to the guests and pre-murder clues are discussed.
8:55 PM: The victim becomes the victim and the host passes out the investigation sheets to the players.
The guests interrogate each other to determine whodunit. The full story is in the player clue cards, but the
guests will have to be skilled at asking the right questions of each other, etc.
9:10 PM: The forensic analysis report is revealed and within ~5-10 minutes, everybody submits their
formal guess of whodunit.
9:20 PM: Optional accusation round – the guests can take turns formally accusing who they think did it,
and why. You’ll be surprised at how everybody’s inner actor will surface during this activity.
9:30 PM: Dessert and coffee (optional) are served and the Round Three envelopes are handed out to
the guests. The guests sit in a circle and one-by-one, the solutions are revealed by each of the guests and the
murderer will confess at the conclusion of the round. The murderer is notified in their round three solution card
that they are the murderer. They will not know or have any advantage over anybody of knowing whodunit
before this round. *If you do not opt to have the optional players read their final solutions in front of the group,
give them a few minutes to mingle and share their solutions after the murderer confesses.
9:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played.
10:10 PM: An optional award ceremony. My Mystery Party has award certificates of all kinds that you can
choose from in the Prop Emporium. The host can determine who receives the awards while the bonus game is
being played. Some awards are traditional and some are snarky but hilarious!
10:30 PM: Game over!
Please don’t forget to share your pics on our Facebook page (My Mystery Party) to receive a discount
on your next party!
Helpful Hints on How to Play a Mystery Party
You’ve been assigned a character and you’ve come to the party dressed in the most awesome
costume and have been told to play your role. Now what?
The mystery is separated into three main rounds of party play. During the party, you will
receive an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The
clues for the characters at the party provide everything that you need to solve the mystery.
However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right
questions and pay close attention to everyone’s clues to get the whole picture of what has
happened.
Instructions included in the
purchased game
From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are
playing a ‘hypocritical police officer,’ then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly,
your host cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. Some characters are
designed to be played more reserved than other characters. Feel free to play your role in any
manner that you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like.
However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other guests to
approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information.
OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS:
Cut the task strips out below and slip them into envelopes. Below on the
pre-game task sheets, fill in your guests’ preferred contact information (i.e. email, phone) so they will be able to contact
each other. IMPORTANT: If any of the optional players are not being played in your game, write ‘DISREGARD
THIS TASK’ in the contact information space. 
-
OPTIONAL - for some pre-party fun, contact
(email, phone, etc.) the following guests in the
week leading up to the party:
Contact the guest playing Character A and say
that your sister enjoyed her scuba lesson
tremendously last Saturday. You purchased the
lesson for her birthday and it was an ideal gift.
Character A is doing a great job!
Contact info :______________________________
Contact the guest playing Character G and say
you found it odd that s/he makes advertising
plugs during the prime time newscast. Isn’t that
what commercials are for? You don’t remember
the last news anchor adding advertisements
during the newscast.
Contact info :______________________________
Please note: either contacting the guests
above or deciding to skip these tasks will not
alter the mystery or anyone's ability to solve
the mystery in anyway. However, contacting
other guests will lead to excitement about the
party and prepare everybody for serious fun!

CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND
During this round, mingle with other guests to discuss
the following information with whomever you choose:
Tell a few people that you are the best mechanic and
the only mechanic in town and people need to stop
being so sassy about how much you charge.
Tell a few people that you heard a rumor that Riley
White is associated with the mob. See if anybody
thinks that is true. If so, you won’t vote for Mayor White
in the upcoming election.
PERSONAL CLUES TO CONCEAL
•
•
•
You were adding extra parts/ labor to all of your work at
your auto shop until everybody found out about it. Now,
to make your income the same as it’s always been, you
had to double your prices. Some people are sore about
the price increases, but there’s nothing they can do as
you are the only mechanic in town.
You heard Character B is starting his/her own mob
organization. If Riley White is associated with a
different mob - that means there may be two mob
organizations in town. That’s a serious issue.
Character H brought in a Rolls Royce for repairs to a
bumper. You charged Character H the new increased
rate and then henchmen showed up to threaten your
life. S/he never paid a dime and doesn’t intend to ever
pay.

You are growing tired of being around your horrible
neighbor, Character J. Character J has not apologized
for what happened during your recent feud with the
dogs – but you’re not surprised, s/he never apologized
for throwing an entire ham over the fence and hitting
your grandmother in the head! Character J is a tyrant
and a nightmare to live next door to!
Find out why nobody has ever run for mayor against
Riley White, but now Character X is running for mayor.
What changed? Character X never wanted the job
before, so why now?
Ask Omari Black why s/he has so many
advertisements during his/her morning show but didn’t
before. What has changed? Omari should tell the
executive producers it is annoying! Listeners don’t like
to hear that many ads during a morning radio show!

solutions, you can view the answer key.
Playing with the expansion pack: the expansion pack players will not read their solutions in front
of the group, as it will drag on and lead to low energy and disinterest. We suggest you either only
allow the 8 required players to read &/or just the main game players (as directed on the cards) and
then host a mingling session after the conclusion for all characters to share their endings.
If you decide only to have the required 8 read aloud, you’ll need to intervene when the cards direct
the optional players to read and ask that they wait until after the murderer confesses. The order in
which the players are to present their solutions is in the final answer key. You may view it at this time
to see the order in which they read and make an announcement for the guests to disregard the
instructions on their solution card for the order to read and you will call them in the order in which to
read. There is a ton of flexibility with this final round. The only thing important is that the murderer
reads last!
