Job Description
Title of Post:
Finance Manager
Grade:
Band 4 Max.

Responsible For:
Finance Assistant
Responsibilities of the post:
To oversee financial arrangements and control and
to assist the head teacher in budget reviews,
projections, setting and monitoring.
To manage Finance staff and financial matters as
delegated by the Headteacher. All members of the
support staff are subject to annual Performance
management and Pay reviews.
Example Duties and Responsibilities: Band 4
Finance and Accountancy
 Advise and assist the Head Teacher and Director of Operations on general financial policy,
planning budget management
 Co-ordination of annual budget of income and expenditure for the school
 Monitoring the annual budget and presenting management reports to the
Headteacher/Governors/SLT, attending relevant meetings as requested.
 Keeping analysis of costs and other statistical records
 Preparation of financial appraisals for projects as required
 Scrutinising statements and authorizing invoices for payment in accordance with school policy
 Collate information gathered by human resources for the accurate completion and validity of
payroll returns for the payment of all salaries and wages including PAYE, NIC and
Superannuation
 Responsible for the data input on payroll (monthly)
 Making payments for Pensions and Union Fees and other regulated agencies.
 Producing regular reports to budget holders.
 Keeping all school accounts and preparing income and expenditure reports in accordance with
financial regulations
 To undertake monthly reconciliation of the schools financial systems and all school accounts
 Preparing cheques and BACS payments for signature and ensuring suppliers are paid promptly
 Preparing annual accounts and ensuring that external Auditors effect audit within time limits
 Maintenance and oversight of bank accounts (investment deposit, non public etc) VAT
accounting and payment if necessary.
 Ordering of stock relating to the financial management of the school
 Ensuring appropriate insurances are in place

Responsible for the input of all income and expenditure on PSFinancials and re-charges to
Departments
Management of Parentpay
Research and produce proposals for fundraising, supporting bid writing and income generation.







To undertake Performance Management reviews annually for the Finance assistant.
To ensure that all staff are paid correctly and in accordance with the most up to date pay scales
in liaison with Payroll provider
To ensure that the requisite Health and Safety Regulations and Codes of Practice are complied
with for the safety of students and staff.
Any other reasonable request by the Headteacher
All staff have a responsibility for the safeguarding and promotion of well-being of all pupils.
