SALINA AREA UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF EVENT
August 22, 2014 – In lieu of a typical campaign kickoff, Salina Area United Way is
hosting an event that will help the Salina area fight hunger and food insecurity.
Did you know that 14.5% of Saline County residents are food insecure*? This means that
people have a lack of access to enough food for all the members of their household and
uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods. Salina Area United Way is fighting
these statistics by providing a unique opportunity to give back to the community, and
celebrate the beginning of 2014 Campaign season.
Salina Area United Way has enlisted the help of a national organization called Outreach
that will help over 200 volunteers package 50,000 macaroni and cheese meals in just 2
hours on September 26. Outreach will provide the necessary ingredients, packaging
equipment, training, supplies, and certified food safe event coordinators. This event is
designed to include people of all ages and backgrounds. Everyone in the Salina
community is invited to attend.
“We are excited to continue to turn outward and face the needs of the community,” said
Salina Area United Way Executive Director Amanda Michaelis. “This event is a unique
opportunity to give back and make a difference.”
