National Therapist Certification Program Treating Trauma in Children: Using Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy Thursday, March 30 & Friday, March 31, 2017 A collaboration between The Mental Health Management Agency The Mental Health Association and Brook Lane Health Services, Inc. Program Location: The Mental Health Association 226 S. Jefferson Street, Frederick, MD 21701 Children all over the world suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of a multitude of types of traumatic events. Traumatic events range from physical abuse, sexual abuse, witnessing domestic violence, natural disasters, medical crises to community violence. Research has shown Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy to be a highly effective treatment of PTSD in children and adolescents. Treatment of PTSD is critical in allowing children to heal and move forward in life after experiencing trauma. Pre-Completion of the online training for TF-CBT at http://tfcbt.musc.edu/ (Required to attend training) (This training meets the 2 day initial training criteria for becoming a certified TF-CBT therapist established by the developers of the model- Dr. Anthony Mannarino, Dr. Judy Cohen, and Dr. Esther Deblinger). Target Audience: Master’s level psychiatric clinicians who are interested in providing individualized treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder to children and adolescents in Frederick County. At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to: • Discuss the nine basic components of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TFCBT); • Summarize the research supporting the principles TF-CBT; • Employ the TF-CBT model for assessment of PTSD in children/adolescents; • Identify markers for demonstration of treatment effectiveness; • Utilize TF-CBT for the treatment of PTSD in children/adolescents. 1 Presenter: Vickie Beck, CNS, BC is a board certified child and adolescent Clinical Nurse Specialist specializing in working with children and families. She has over 40 years of experience, 16 years of which she has been using Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). For the past 9 years, Ms. Beck has been a national TF-CBT trainer and has taught hundreds of clinicians in effectively treating PTSD and trauma related symptoms in children/adolescents. Ms. Beck is from of Baltimore, Maryland. The Certification Process: By registering for this workshop, you signify that you understand: 1. the registration process available for viewing at: https://tfcbt.org/certification-process/; 2. that you must complete the online training at: http://tfcbt.musc.edu/ and bring your certificate of completion to the training on March 30, 2017. 3. that you must attend BOTH sessions, Thursday, March 30 and Friday, March 31, 2017 from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; 4. that you are required to attend monthly hour-long conferences for 12 months following the two-day training. 5. that you are required to attend the follow-up half day training June 26th. 6. that you plan to complete the certification criteria and apply for, as well as pass the certification exam (cost $250); 7. that you have capacity to accept new referrals of individuals who will benefit from the TFCBT model. Maryland Social Workers: Brook Lane Health Services is an approved sponsor of the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners for continuing education credits for licensed social workers in Maryland. Brook Lane is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. This program will provide 13.0 credit hours of Category I continuing education; partial credit will not be awarded. Maryland Psychologists: The Maryland State Board of Examiners for Psychologists will accept continuing education hours provided by Brook Lane, an approved CE sponsor by the Maryland State Board of Social Worker Examiners; partial credit will not be awarded. Counselors/Therapists: Brook Lane Health Services has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5452.
