TRADITIONAL COSMETICS
Definition :
Cosmetics which are made traditionally, from fresh or dried
engridience, fruits or herbs around us.
Traditional cosmetics are classified into :
a. Kinds of cosmetics which grow the hair well and
strengthen the hair root.
1). Coconut ( Cocos nucifera L ),
is useful for dry hair and
branching
Coconut milk is taken from it,
then cooked until become oil.

2). Nutmeg (Aleurites moluccana),
a. Crush the meat of nutmeg until smooth.
b. Boil with 1 glass of water until oily.
c. Filter, then rub the oil on the scalp,
press, then cover the hair and put
it into the steamer ± 20 minutes
d. Wash the hair clean.
3). Lidah buaya (Aloe vera),
a. Skin out Aloe vera
b. Take the liquid (mucus), scrub
on the scalp and hair until wet.
Cover with cloth ± 5 hours
c. Wash clean

4). Lidah
mertua (Sansevieria Laurentii),
a. Take the stem of sanseveria, wash clean
b. Crush it until smooth, add water, squeeze.
c. The liquid is used to wet the scalp and hair
d. Use it after taking a bath in the afternoon
e. wash it clean.
5). Jarak pagar (Jatropha curcas),

a. Choose the seed of old jarak
b. Crush it until oily, filter with cloth
c. Rub this oil on the scalp, massage
d. Wait for some minutes, wash clean .

6). Pare (Momordica charantia ),
a. a fistful of pare (still fresh)
b. Wash it clean, crush it like porridge
c. Put water ¾ cup, expose to dew
d. filter with cloth, scrub it on the scalp and hair
e. Pare leaves can make hair grow well on
the thin reddish hair, especially baby’s hair
7). Spinach (Amaranthus tricolor),
a. Take a bundle of fresh spinach
b. Wash clean, crush until smooth
c. Add a little salt, turn thoroughly
d. Squeeze and filter, drink it

8). Bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides),
a. Take a fistful of leaves and stems
of fresh bandotan, wash
b. crush until smooth, rub on the scalp and hair
c. wait about 2-3 hours, wash with warm water
.

9). Rice (Oryza sativa),
a. take 2 bundle of rice stems, burn it in a pan
or clay until become ash
b. add water 1 litter, expose it to dew for 1 night
c. take the clean water and use it to wash hair
without shampoo.
- d. Rinse the hair with lime extract (air jeruk purut)

10). Urang-aring (Eclipta prostrata)
a. Take a fistful of urang-aring, wash it
b. crush until smooth, add water 2 glass, stir
filter with cloth.
c. expose to dew for 1 night
d. rub and massage the scalp and hair with it
11). Tali putri (Cassytha filiformis)
a. Take a fistful of tali putri, wash it
b. put at a bowl, squeeze with hand until
the liquid come out.
c. filter with cloth
d. rub it on the scalp and hair
e. wait for 1 night, wash until clean

12). Celery (Apium graveolens)
a. Take 7-10 piece of celery (daun seledri)
b. Wash and crush until smooth
c. scrub it on the scalp and hair which has
been washed
d. Cover with towel ± 1 hour
e. rinse until clean

13). Tea (Camellia sinensis),
a. Expose thick tea water to dew for 1 night
b. Rub and massage the scalp and hair with it

14). Waru (Hibiscus tiliaceus)
a. Take young waru leaf 15 pieces
b. Wash then squeeze with 1 glass of
water until the sticky liquid come out
c. Expose to dew for 1 night
d. Rub the scalp and hair with this liquid.

15). Bean Sprout
a. Take ½ ons sprout
b. Wash, squeeze and add with ¼ glass of water
c. filter with cloth
d. Rub it on the scalp and hair.
e. Cover with small towel for 20 minutes
f. Rinse with warm water and rinse with shampoo,
rinse again with cold water

16). Avocado
a. take ½ avocado, smooth it
b. wash hair with warm water
c. Rub the avocado on the scalp and hair
d. cover hair for 15 minutes
e. wash hair with warm water and finish with cold water.

b. Cosmetics which prevent / anti dandruff are classified as
follow :
1). Inggu (Ruta angustifolia)/Aruda (Melayu)/Godong minggu
(Jawa)
a. take a fistful of fresh inggu leaf, add with
a slice of turmeric and 1 teaspoon of rice.
b. wash all the engridience, then crush until
smooth
c. Rub it on the scalp which has dandruff,
cover with cloth
d. wait for 1 night, wash until clean

2). Kangkung (Ipomoea aquatica forsk),
a. Take 1 bundle of fresh kangkung stem
b. wash, cut into pieces, put into a bowl,
add water until all the stems soak
c. wait for 1 night
d. Wet the scalp with this water while
massaging lightly
e. Let it dry naturally
f. in the afternoon, rinse until clean
3). Lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle)
a. take 1 piece of lime (jeruk nipis), cut into
2 - 4 sections
b. Rub it on the scalp
c. Wait for some minutes. Rinse until clean

4). Mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia L)
a. Take 3 piece of ripe mengkudu
b. Wash and grate
c. Add water and stir thoroughly → porridge
d. Rub it on the scalp
e. Wait until dry. Rinse until clean
5). Pineapple (Ananas comosus [L.] Merr.)
a. Take 1 piece of ripe pineapple
b. Skin out and grate
c. Rub it on the scalp
(do at night)
d. Rinse until clean
