June 4, 2017 is rapidly approaching and it is one of the most exciting
times for our senior class. Plans are currently underway for a memorable
Prom, Senior Honors Night, Department Award Breakfast,
Baccalaureate, and Commencement. We look forward to providing
dignified and memorable ceremonies for our seniors, their parents,
relatives, and friends.
To assist in preparing and planning for these activities, the information
contained in this Senior Information Packet is intended to address the
questions and concerns which you may have relative to Commencement
and other senior activities. The packet is presented in an effort to provide
a comprehensive listing of important and/ or required dates, times, and
approximate costs of all senior activities so that family and personal
arrangements can be planned for well in advance.
Commencement is a dignified and meaningful experience that honors a
student’s accomplishment in meeting the criteria for high school graduation.
All students meeting the prescribed requirements for high school graduation
graduate - however, attending Commencement is not required. Participation
in Commencement is a privilege and carries with it very important
responsibilities. Notable among these responsibilities are attending to critical
meeting times and expectations for behavior. Students are cautioned that
failure to meet these responsibilities in full and on time may result in
exclusion from Commencement participation. Board of Education policy
requires all candidates for graduation to attend the rehearsal in order to
participate in the Commencement ceremony. For all school activities,
students and parents are reminded that the Student Conduct Code and
Board of Education policies are applicable and will be enforced.
We have thoroughly enjoyed working with this great group of seniors and
look forward with eagerness to the upcoming activities and the rite of
passage they signify.
If you have any additional questions or concerns after reviewing this
information, please contact Mrs. Horn at 440.779.8825.

A fashion show will be the featured portion of this assembly. Also discussed the assembly will
be proper etiquette, Prom activities, and expectations. There will also be important
information about the process for purchasing prom tickets. All school rules of conduct apply

*The Senior Prom/After Prom is a gala event open to NOHS seniors and their dates. Students must have senior status in
order to purchase a prom ticket. Seniors may invite another NOHS student of junior or senior status, a student from
another school or a person already graduated from high school as their date. Any outside guest for Prom must be of junior
or senior status, between the ages of 15- 20 and receive permission to attend the dance by the administration of North
Olmsted High School. Administration reserves the right to deny admittance of any adult guest at their discretion. NOHS
seniors who plan to bring a graduate or student from another school must register that person (name, age, and address)
no later than one calendar week prior to the Prom date. Failure to do so may result in denial of attendance at the Prom.
All school fees must be paid in full prior to the purchase of tickets.
The Senior Prom is a school-sponsored event and is typically held at a site off school grounds due to the large size of our
senior class. Prom and After-Prom are school-sponsored events and all normal school rules and regulations for such
activities apply, including the no-smoking and drinking standards. Students involved in smoking and/or consumption
and/or possession of alcohol and/or drugs (before or during the Prom or After-Prom) are subject to immediate removal,
disciplinary and/or legal action. Parents and/or guardians of such students will be notified.

Prom Pledge
I want to live. I want to laugh, listen to great music, and dance. I want to have an
absolutely, unimaginably great time at prom. The day after, I will relive it hour by hour,
with my friends. I want to remember it... all of it. I will not use alcohol at prom.
SAVE OUR SENIORS INFORMATION ON THE KEG LAW & HOTEL/MOTEL PARTIES
As the end of the school year approaches, plans for Prom, Graduation and other special events
are being made. We look forward to a safe and happy Prom and Graduation. We do not
want this time to be spoiled by incidents involving alcohol, illegal underage drinking, car
accidents, or hotel/motel parties. The safety of our young people can be increased if we all
work to caution them regarding certain activities, particularly alcohol, unsafe driving, and
partying.
The Keg Law (Ohio Revised Code Section 4301.69) holds individuals responsible for underage
drinking on property under their control. If an after-prom party is held at a private home and
the parents knowingly allow underage persons to consume alcoholic beverages, both the
underage persons and the parents are in violation of the law.
Violation is a FIRST DEGREE MISDEMEANOR, punishable with up to SIX MONTHS in jail
and/or up to a $1000 FINE. Also, the parents may be held civilly liable in the event that an
underage person is involved in an alcohol-related accident.
The Keg Law also includes, hotels, motels, campgrounds, and other public places that they
NOT KNOWINGLY allow underage drinking par- ties to take place on their premises. They are
still subject to criminal prosecution and are held liable. It is, therefore, important that family
and friends remind graduating seniors and their friends of the seriousness of participating in
hotel/motel parties where drinking may be occurring. More importantly, parents or older
siblings, relatives, or friends should not make hotel/motel reservations for teens. Instead,
seniors should be encouraged to attend the North Olmsted High School After-Prom for a night
of activities and fun for students in lieu of hotel/motel parties.
Also, in Ohio, parents may be held liable for any injury or damage caused by a teenager
who has been allowed to drink in their home. Any person under the age of 21 who provides
false identification for the purpose of purchasing alcohol is guilty of a crime.
Let us make this time of the year for our graduates a safe, enjoyable one and one they will
look upon with fondness and not sadness.
BACCALAUREATE
Baccalaureate has been an enjoyable experience for our Senior Class for many years. This
program incorporates several music performances from our talented choir, reading and
musical selections from our seniors, and a motivational speech from a senior selected faculty
member.
This ceremony is open to all members of the senior class and their families. Participation in
this program is not mandatory. Seniors that participate are expected to wear their
graduation gowns over dress clothes. Caps are not to be worn at this ceremony. Graduation
gowns will have been distributed to all students providing that all school fees have been
paid.

FINAL NOTE: Commencement is an important occasion for family and friends, but more importantly, it is a
celebration of your accomplishments. You have made academic and personal accomplishments. We are
proud of the person that you have become. It is our expectation to celebrate you with the dignity that you
and the occasion deserve. An expectation of commencement is that it is drug and alcohol free, that
reactions consist of appropriate methods of celebration, and that all participants conduct themselves with
the proper decorum. We would like the class of 2017 to end their year with dignity and pride. We will do
everything we can to make that happen.
We also ask family members and guests to refrain from inappropriate behavior or loud noises. We feel
each graduate’s family has the right to proudly hear their son’s/daughter’s name announced without
interruptions. Your cooperation is most appreciated. Air horns and other loud devices are not permitted.
