PROCLAMATION IN HONOR OF CADILLAC VARSITY BOYS’ BASKETBALL TEAM WHEREAS, The Cadillac Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team’s 2012/2013 season with a 21-5 record, was outstanding, exciting and historic with an impressive State Semi-Final appearance at the Breslin Center in East Lansing against the number one team in Class B, Detroit Country Day. That prior to this season, the last Cadillac Viking team to reach a State Semi-Final in Boys’ Basketball was in the 1920’s. WHEREAS, The Cadillac Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team this season also earned a share of First place as tri-champs of the Big North Conference, a District Championship in the Scottville District, a Regional Championship in the Grayling region, and were the proud winners of an exhilarating State Quarterfinal game played at Ferris’ Wink Arena over a highly-rated Big Rapids Cardinal team that had only lost one game all year. WHEREAS, The Cadillac Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team was led throughout this season by their Head Coach Jeff McDonald. Coach McDonald has coached for the Cadillac Vikings for 19 seasons now and this year achieved his 300th varsity win as the Vikings skipper. Coach McDonald’s lifetime record is 303-125 and his reputation in Northern Michigan is at the very top. Coach McDonald was joined by Assistant Varsity Coaches Dave Simons, John Emington, Ryan Benzenberg, Marty Cartwright and Dan Dahlquist. The team also enjoyed working with the school’s Athletic Trainer Jacquie Hall and Managers Charlie Runstrom and Jeff Stiver, and WHEREAS, The Cadillac Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team consists of Team Captains Ben Mackey and Nick Paquet with players Jalen Brooks, Andrew Emington, Trevor Denike, Lewis Finch, Wyatt Lucas, Matthew Adams, Evan Ferritto, Justin Liptak, Tanner Derror, Jake Hunter and Carl Wier, and THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the City of Cadillac wishes to formally recognize the 20122013 Cadillac Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team for their historically successful season, their great sportsmanship as demonstrated in cities and basketball courts across the State and their teamwork approach to basketball that was marveled by all who followed their games throughout the successes this group of young men experienced under the leadership of Coach McDonald, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT I, William S. Barnett, Mayor of the City of Cadillac convey this very special recognition by way of this proclamation, to the 2012-2013 Cadillac Viking Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team and wish to congratulate them for their exceptional achievements on this, the fifteenth day of April, 2013. _____________________________ William S.
