Committed to Colour Worldwide Consistency Quality Environment Health & Safety Excellence Worldwide selection guide Pigments and Preparations coatings Integrated Colour Solution Provider TM Dominion Colour Corporation Working Together for Quality www.dominioncolour.com TM This Coatings Product Selection Guide provides a comprehensive listing of the pigments and dispersions from Dominion Colour Corporation (DCC) for Architectural and Industrial liquid coatings including Automotive and Coil coating applications as well as Powder coatings. The following pages provide a general overview of DCC pigments and dispersions indicating their suitability of use in the main fields of coatings application. Consistency Quality Environment Health & Safety Excellence Worldwide coatings The pigments are grouped into colour shades with all the different solutions provided for a specific colour space including organic and inorganic pigments and dispersions. The general suitability of use in application is indicated for each product. DCC strongly suggests testing a sample in your specific system to determine your specific suitability. Some of the data contained in this product selection guide may differ slightly from that on the Technical Data Sheets (TDS) as the respective product TDS is updated immediately following any changes to the data such as updated weatherfastness. The respective product TDS should be used to obtain the most current and detailed data available for a product. The data presented in this brochure is intended to make it easier to select suitable pigments or dispersions for their intended use. DOMINION COLOUR CORPORATION Dominion Colour Corporation (DCC) and its subsidiary companies together provide colour to the world through the development, manufacture, marketing and distribution of a full range of inorganic and organic colour pigments, pigment preparations and dispersions, as well as some speciality coatings and digital inks. Through the unstinting efforts of our employees and partners, DCC strives to excel in fulfilling the needs and expectations of customers in over 75 countries by consistently supplying quality products and services to customers in the plastics, coatings, printing ink, paper and artists colour industries both locally and globally. Integrated Colour Solution Provider PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES SPECIFIC GRAVITY The Specific Gravity (SG) is determined using DCC TM 3101B. CHEMICAL RESISTANCE ACID AND ALKALI RESISTANCE Determined by exposing the dry pigment powder (at a ratio of 1:10) to a 2% hydrochloric acid and a 2% sodium hydroxide solution for 30 minutes at room temperature. The exposed sample is filtered, dried, printed and then compared against the control. The degree of colour change is expressed as Excellent (no colour change) to Poor (severe colour change). OIL ABSORPTION The Oil Absorption (OA) is determined using the Fasig Method from the Gardner Catalogue (1946), p. 291. HEAT RESISTANCE The recorded values indicate the maximum temperature at which the pigment does not significantly alter in shade. The suffix indicates blooming may occur and the pigment is not recommended for baking systems. SOLVENT RESISTANCE Determined by exposing the dry pigment powder (at a ratio of 1:50) to various solvents for 30 minutes at room temperature. The exposed pigment is filtered and then compared against standard solutions. The degree of bleed is expressed as Excellent (no bleed) to Poor (severe bleed). PRODUCT SELECTION GUIDES Refer to your DCC representative for additional information on selecting DCC pigments for use in Coatings, Plastics and Inks. WEATHERFASTNESS Assessments are based on extensive testing of the pigment in various coatings systems, by Xenon Arc Weather-Ometer or Florida exposure. The degree of colour change is assessed according to the 1-5 Grey Scale where 1 indicates severe change and 5 represents no change.
