Drew, Ed.D. A unique and enjoyable “hands-on” play experience exploring ways of nurturing creativity, healthy brain development, and strengthening social and emotional wellbeing in young children. In this session adults engage in play with open-ended materials as a way of deepening their understanding of how play impacts learning and child development. The process is aligned with the American Academy of Pediatrics report, “The Importance of Play in Promoting Healthy Child development and Maintaining Strong Parent-Child Bonds” Child care will be provided. Marcia L Nell, Ph.D. is an associate professor at Millersville University in Millersville, PA, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate early childhood education courses and supervises student teachers. Her research interests include play and creativity, the benefits of the Professional Development School model for teacher training, increasing parent involvement in education, and other aspects of teacher preparation programs. Marcia is the co-author of the book “From Play to Practice: Connecting Teachers’ Play to Children’s Learning” along with many articles regarding the above mentioned research interests. Marcia was a public school teacher for twenty-five years and worked with at-risk children in high poverty and migratory school settings.
