ABOUT BREAST CANCER CARE:
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. Every 10 minutes a woman receives the news
that she has breast cancer - and every day a man does, too. We want every person affected by
breast cancer to get the best treatment, information and support. Our specialist nurses, local services
and emotional support network mean there’s always someone to turn to for tailored and trusted
information and care.
ABOUT THE FINANCE AND RESOURCES TEAM:
The Finance and Resources team consists of the Finance, IT and Facilities teams and is additional
responsible for legal and data protection matters. In addition to paid staff, volunteers regularly work within
the department.
ABOUT THE DATA PROTECTION AND COMPLIANCE PROJECT MANAGER ROLE:
This is a new role required for a one year period to lead on ensuring that the organisation’s policies
and procedures are compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by May 2018.
This is a critical project that will involve working with every team in the organisation on multiple work
streams covering all aspects of our data.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage all aspects of the project to achieve GDPR compliance, including:
 Creation of a project plan and key milestones
 Identification of workstreams
 Co-ordination and execution of work required to fulfil project
 Setting up and management of governance structure for the project
 Mapping and evaluation of existing processes, and the interdependencies between them
 Creation and/or review of relevant policies

To make recommendations to the organisation on how to interpret GDPR, with an
understanding of what the effects of those decisions may mean for fundraising and/or service
delivery

Regular reporting to the Data Protection Working Group, the Senior Management Team and
the Board of Trustees

Assist and advice the Assistant Director of Human Resources to provide relevant training on
data protection matters to the organisation

To keep up to date with guidance and sector thinking on GDPR, attending seminars and
working groups as necessary to inform the project.

To create strong working relationships with key stakeholders around the organisation in
relation to data management and protection

PERSON SPECIFICATION – ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
EXPERIENCE

Extensive experience of managing complex, cross functional projects to time and budget

Extensive knowledge of data protection regulations
SKILLS

The ability to work collaboratively with others

The ability to create clear, concise reports

The ability to communicate and present at all levels up to the board of Trustees.

The ability to work with external consultants and to accept constructive challenge

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
