Consider what can happen when you decide to be generous with your time, your mind, and your heart: You’ll see families, who might only have $20.00 left for food that month, offer you juice when you visit their home (each week the RDC visits families and provides orientations on the American school system and what parents can do to help support their children’s education). You’ll see a child, whom you disciplined yesterday, come back with a bowed head and a smile. He has his homework in his hand, crumpled and wet from the elements. He needs a tutor. You smile back and tap a MSU student on the shoulder. You’ll see an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher staying after class to offer extra encouragement to a student who thinks she will never learn English and wonders if coming to the States was even worth it. This is the only time this week he’ll play and the coach couldn’t be more excited for him as she different countries offers a high‐five (each week the RDC offers a Sports Leadership Club for teens).
