CONTROVERSIES IN CHILD ABUSE
“More Doctors Questioning „Shaken-Baby Syndrome.‟” If you are following the media on this topic, you will read legal and medical discussions addressing the existence of SBS
and questions surrounding its diagnosis. While this controversy is not new, the amount of attention that SBS is getting in the media is becoming more and more prevalent. NPR recently covered this story. The link for reviewing this story is included below. It is a very interesting read
especially the last section.

CMEP MEDICAL TELEVIDEO GOES WEBINAR
We have been hosting a televideo for years which requires participants to go to a hospital based teleconferencing suite. Starting in February, we moved to an online webinar format to
facilitate participation and save people time going to a separate location. This requires a good
internet connection. We are currently using voice-over-internet conferencing. This is best done
with a head set. Speakers and a microphone will work, and if you don't have a microphone, you
can 'chat' by entering typed messages but will need speakers to listen. Televideo remains on the
3rd Thursdays of each month from September to June from 8:30-9:45. Gina Cochrane sends
out a reminder each month. If you are not on her list and want to be, contact her at
[email protected]. If you want to volunteer to host a webinar, present a case, or have
questions or suggestions about content or format, contact Adam Zolotor at
[email protected].
REVIEWING MEDICAL REPORTS & FINDINGS FOR CAC MEDICAL PROVIDERS
The CMEP medical staff members are available to review medical reports and physical
findings for our medical providers. We also want to assist the CACs in meeting the medical criteria for accreditation by providing a review process when requested. We will review any case

(Medicaid or CMEP paid) when the provider requests a second review. The medical report and a CD containing images should be submitted to CMEP with a notation that this is for review by the medical staff. If you do
not already have a review process in place, we are encouraging providers to submit positive findings in sexual
