SCENARIO
During year 11 on the BTEC Sport course you will also be completing the Sports Leaders Level 1

You have already developed your leading experience through leading your own activity session to
younger pupils in the schools. Now it is time to work as part of a team and delivery a sports event
to younger pupils at Shamblehurst primary school.
The sports event will take place in a double BTEC lesson and you will plan a sports hall based multi
sports event.
TASK 1:
P4 - contribute to the planning and leading of a sports event
In groups of approximately 3/4 as directed by your BTEC Teacher you will plan a single sporting
activity which will consist of WARM UP/SKILL ACTIVITY and GAMES BASED ACTIVITIES. This will
be on the size of a badminton court so plan activities and space carefully.
In your group you will all plan and lead sections of the sport, also helping with group organization.
Groups will be moved around between 6-8 sporting activities each lasting a maximum time of
25/30 minutes.
You will need to work as a whole class to deliver session. As a class you are responsible for
timings, meeting and greeting pupils, rotating activities and informing younger pupils of the
events plans.
To achieve P4:
- Use tutor support to ensure that your sporting activity is correct planned, ensuring it is safe
and effective.
- Complete Planning Page Worksheet 1.3
-
Complete diagram/drawing on Area Plan (found on the VLE) detailing how you will set out
equipment.
Successfully and safely lead and engaging and active sporting activity must include a warm
up / drill or skill based activity and a final game based activity or challenge.
Must consider and plan for participants age, ability, gender, numbers, medical needs and
or specific needs.
You must demonstrate skills, qualities and responsibilities associated with successful sports
leadership.
TASK 2:
P5 - review own performance whilst assisting with the planning and leading of a sports
event, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
M4 - explain strengths and areas for improvement in assisting with the planning and leading
of a sports event, making suggestions relating to improvement.
D2 – Evaluate own performance in the planning and leading of a sports activity and event,
commenting on strengths and areas for improvement and further development as a sports
leader.
To achieve P5:
- Once you have lead the sporting activity you need to complete a review of how the session
went. Use Self Evaluation Form Graded 1-4 (found on the VLE)and complete all areas
grading areas or strength and areas to develop.
To achieve M4:
- Once you have leaded the sporting activity you need to complete a review of how the
session went. Use Self Evaluation Form (found on the VLE). Use the spaces to complete
each question explaining why certain areas in the sessions were strengths and what needs
improvement. Use examples from the session to support answers.
To achieve D2:
- You must have completed both previously mentioned Self Evaluation forms.
- Collect at least 2 Peer evaluation forms from other Leaders within your class who observed
your lesson.
- Using all evaluation forms produce a written word report evaluating your leadership
strengths and areas to develop in detail. Use self-evaluation answers and peer evaluation
