Assignment Learning Outcome 4 – Be able to assist in the planning and leading of a sports event Learning Outcome5 – Be able to review their planning and leadership of a sports event. SCENARIO During year 11 on the BTEC Sport course you will also be completing the Sports Leaders Level 1 qualification. You have already developed your leading experience through leading your own activity session to younger pupils in the schools. Now it is time to work as part of a team and delivery a sports event to younger pupils at Shamblehurst primary school. The sports event will take place in a double BTEC lesson and you will plan a sports hall based multi sports event. TASK 1: P4 - contribute to the planning and leading of a sports event In groups of approximately 3/4 as directed by your BTEC Teacher you will plan a single sporting activity which will consist of WARM UP/SKILL ACTIVITY and GAMES BASED ACTIVITIES. This will be on the size of a badminton court so plan activities and space carefully. In your group you will all plan and lead sections of the sport, also helping with group organization. Groups will be moved around between 6-8 sporting activities each lasting a maximum time of 25/30 minutes. You will need to work as a whole class to deliver session. As a class you are responsible for timings, meeting and greeting pupils, rotating activities and informing younger pupils of the events plans. To achieve P4: - Use tutor support to ensure that your sporting activity is correct planned, ensuring it is safe and effective. - Complete Planning Page Worksheet 1.3 - Complete diagram/drawing on Area Plan (found on the VLE) detailing how you will set out equipment. Successfully and safely lead and engaging and active sporting activity must include a warm up / drill or skill based activity and a final game based activity or challenge. Must consider and plan for participants age, ability, gender, numbers, medical needs and or specific needs. You must demonstrate skills, qualities and responsibilities associated with successful sports leadership. TASK 2: P5 - review own performance whilst assisting with the planning and leading of a sports event, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. M4 - explain strengths and areas for improvement in assisting with the planning and leading of a sports event, making suggestions relating to improvement. D2 – Evaluate own performance in the planning and leading of a sports activity and event, commenting on strengths and areas for improvement and further development as a sports leader. To achieve P5: - Once you have lead the sporting activity you need to complete a review of how the session went. Use Self Evaluation Form Graded 1-4 (found on the VLE)and complete all areas grading areas or strength and areas to develop. To achieve M4: - Once you have leaded the sporting activity you need to complete a review of how the session went. Use Self Evaluation Form (found on the VLE). Use the spaces to complete each question explaining why certain areas in the sessions were strengths and what needs improvement. Use examples from the session to support answers. To achieve D2: - You must have completed both previously mentioned Self Evaluation forms. - Collect at least 2 Peer evaluation forms from other Leaders within your class who observed your lesson. - Using all evaluation forms produce a written word report evaluating your leadership strengths and areas to develop in detail. Use self-evaluation answers and peer evaluation comments to support your answer. Also comment on how you aim to further develop as a sports leader in the future.
