7th Grade Curriculum
This grade level brochure is designed to provide you
with an overview of the challenging curriculum we offer
our students. It identifies key curriculum concepts for
7th grade but it is not meant to be all-inclusive.
 Analyze how characters in literature deal with conflict
and solve problems; relate these to real life
experiences.
 Understand the meaning of stories (moral of the story,
theme, and author’s point of view on a topic) by
interpreting the story elements.
 Apply word analysis and vocabulary skills to
comprehend reading selections.
Mission Statement
Epiphany Catholic School provides a student-focused,
standards-driven, and secure educational environment,
based upon the Gospel values, that promotes the
spiritual, emotional, moral, intellectual, and physical
development of all students.
Religion & Character Formation
 Foster the virtues of kindness, respect, optimism,
generosity, honesty, prudence, patience,
responsibility, morality.
 Discuss the lives of the saints.
 Prepare for and participate in religious celebrations
(weekly masses, Adoration, Stations of the Cross, the
Rosary, Reconciliation, Feast of Corpus Christi, and
visits to the Blessed Sacrament).
 Study the mission of Jesus, especially his parables and
miracles.
 Study in more depth the seven sacraments.
Language Arts - Language
 Write a fully developed narrative using focus,
organization, elaboration, and coherence.
 Write a strong persuasive essay using professional
language and overcome audience objections.
 Research and write informative pieces citing sources
correctly.
 Edit and revise students’ own writings for word
choice and organization.
 Build a strong foundation in English conventions.
Language Arts - Literature
 Read classic novels, short stories, and poetry in a
variety of genres (plays, poetry, and young adult
fiction).
 Explain how the plot and setting contribute to the
overall effect of a piece of literature.

 Analyze proportional relationships and use them to
solve real-world and mathematical problems.
 Apply and extend previous understandings of
operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply,

 Understand the impact of industry and technology on
the population and environment of the United States
after Reconstruction.
 Analyze the effects of individuals, groups, and
government in shaping the reform movements of the
20th century.
 Identify, describe, and explain the basic principles of
government provided for in the U.S. Constitution.
Foreign Language - Spanish
Fine Arts - Music
 Communicate understanding of selected topics
(everyday activities, weather, school life, family
relationships, home responsibilities, prepositions, and
possessive adjectives) in oral and written forms.
 Show understanding of customs, history, and
geography of Texas, Costa Rica, and Chile.
 Reinforce oral expression.
 Form and use regular, irregular, and stem changing
verbs in present tense.
 Play traditional band instruments or sing using good
technique.
 Describe elements of music using music vocabulary
(tempo, dynamics, and pitch).
 Demonstrate good performer and audience behavior in
class performances.
 Read and write traditional music notation on the treble

 Use touch typing skills and proper posture (95%
accuracy at 30 wpm).

technology systems.
 Use word processor application for work across the
curriculum.
 Create multimedia presentation, using text, graphics,
and animations.
 Format a table to organize and display data.
 Create spreadsheets using simple formulas and create
graphs using data obtained from the spreadsheets.
 Use simple search strategies to streamline searches
and locate appropriate information more efficiently.
 Evaluate the accuracy and appropriateness of
electronic information (research author, date,
reliability of information on website).
 Summarize information found during an Internet
search.
 Utilize Web 2.0 tools and Google Drive apps.

Physical Education & Health
 Show how conditioning and exercise affects cardio
respiratory performance.
 Perform fitness testing based on the health-related
components of fitness.
 Study health in relation to personal development,
social issues, and drug awareness.
Resource
Epiphany School offers assistance with a variety of
skills and in all academic areas for students with a
demonstrated need. The Epiphany Resource Program
collaborates with Unit 5 to meet the needs of these
students. Contact the Epiphany Resource teacher
regarding any educational concerns in the following
areas: academic evaluations, speech and language
development, motor skills, and behavioral, health,
vision, hearing, and social/emotional concerns

Fine Arts - Art
 Analyze how the elements and principles (colors,
lines, design) can be organized to convey meaning
through a variety of media.
 Create two-dimensional and three-dimensional art
demonstrating knowledge and skills of elements and
principles.
 Analyze historical references involving culturally
diverse artists and art history as well as understand
how art reflects history, society and everyday life.
