Honors Biology! - School District 27J

Welcome to Honors Biology!
It is a pleasure and an honor to be your teacher this year. My goal is to push you to achieve academically
while still having some fun! The goal of Honors Biology is to prepare you for Advanced Placement Biology,
Honors Chemistry and to set you on a successful path to higher education. Please remember that
pushing yourself to think is a vital part to your success in this class. As honors students, you are
comfortable being in class and doing your homework. However, as an honors course, simply turning in
your work will not guarantee an “A.” Your effort in understanding the material we study will be directly
reflected in your grade. I am here to help and am invested in your success!
Honors Biology Enrollment Policy: Once enrolled in Honors Biology, we expect that you complete the
year-long course. When the 2 week add-drop deadline has passed, no other schedule changes regarding
this class will be allowed. If you choose to drop Honors Biology within the 2 week period, you will be
placed in Freshman Physical Science and will be enrolled in either General Biology or Honors Biology your
sophomore year.

who break or lose any lab supplies will be assessed an additional fee.

Classroom Policies
 Respect – Respect yourself, others and the classroom. Do your best. Speak kindly. Clean up after
yourself.
 Attendance – Please see the school policy on attendance online. If your absence is unexcused, you WILL
NOT be allowed to make up work that is turned in or assigned on that day.
 Tardy Policy:
o To be considered “on time”, you must be in your seat with your materials out.
o Student will receive two “warning” tardies. These tardies will be recorded in Infinite Campus.
Third tardy will result in detention to be served during lunch on Friday. Detentions may only be
served Fridays during lunch.

No electronic devices unless specific permission is given. First offense will result in device being
confiscated until the end of the day, to be picked up by the student. Second and further offences will
result in the device being confiscated until released by a parent or guardian. Devices will be only be
released on Friday during lunch.
Homework Policies

I do not hand out grades, you earn grades.
o Late work will only be accepted with a late pass. Each student will receive 2 late passes at the
beginning of the semester. The late passes allow for a 48 hour due date extension.
I will not accept late passes for certain assignments. Formal lab reports and other assessments or
projects must be turned in on time.
ABSOLUTELY NO CHEATING! Using work, words or ideas that are not your own in any way is considered
cheating.
o First offense will result in a zero for the assignment and parent/guardian notification.
o Second offence will result in referral to administration and possible failure of this class.
o Students that copy or let other students copy will be subject to the same consequences.
Make-up assignments are YOUR responsibility.
o If you are absent, you must check the appropriate make-up folder. You will find the missed
activities and assigned homework in that folder. If you miss a lab, please see me ASAP to schedule
a time to come in and make it up. Labs can only be made up on certain days. If you miss that day,
you will receive a zero on the lab.
o You only have 1 day per absence. (Example: If you miss 2 days, you will have 2 days to turn in makeup work.)
o If an assignment was due the day you were gone, it is due the day you return. This assignment
DOES NOT get the additional make up days.
Make-up work will only be accepted if absence is excused!
If your absence is school-related, homework is due BEFORE your absence! If you are unable to
accomplish this, see me BEFORE your absence.
