It is essential that newly planted trees and shrubs are kept well watered. 2. During the growing season ensure that the plant does not dry out. However, do not over water as this will also damage the plant. 3. Watering Recommendations We recommend that if no significant rain has fallen for one week that for larger trees approximately 18 litres is applied split into two doses with two full days in between and that for smaller trees and shrubs that approximately 12 litres is applied split into two doses with two full days in between. If the dry period continues repeat this process once a week through the dry period. However, do not over water as this will damage the plant – it is worth using a digitometer to test the soil moisture content i.e. poke your finger into the soil to see if it feels wet! New Hedges We strongly recommend that a leaky pipe, running off an outside tap, on a time set to the correct dosage once a day is fitted as a little and often is best. 4. The roots of your plant need air as well as water so check soil conditions regularly. 5. Grass and weeds rob the plant of any available water and nutrients. Maintain a 1 metre weed-free circle around each plant for a minimum of two years. 6. Do not over feed in the first year as this will result in too much canopy growth for the new roots to support. 7. Check and adjust tree ties regularly to accommodate growth.
