Ch. 10 – Global Economy Activity - - - Instruction Sheet (worth 30 points)
1. First, on the country map, color your country red. In the white space write the name of your
country and draw an arrow to it. Do the same for your partner’s country (choose someone with a
different country than your country) – except, color their country purple.
2. Using your iPad, navigate to https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/ - find
the drop down arrow and select your country.
3. Once you are on your countries web page, scroll to the bottom and click on economy. Read
through and become familiar with the economy of your country.
4. Determine the 3 top exports from your country, to your partners’ country.
a. With an orange colored pencil, draw a lined-arrow from your country to your partners’
country. Label that line with those exports (ex: crude oil, wheat, automobile parts, etc.).
5. Determine the 3 top imports of your country, from your partners’ country.
a. With a purple colored pencil, draw a lined-arrow from your country to your partners’

6. Next, navigate to https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/resources/the-worldfactbook/rankorder/2078rank.html

8. Finally, navigate to https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/resources/the-worldfactbook/rankorder/2087rank.html
9. Color the country that has the highest total imports blue. If this country has already been colored,

10. STOP HERE – WE WILL COMPLETE #11-16 IN CLASS TOMORROW (Thursday).
11. Using the 3 major exports you found for your country in #4, conduct research and find the total
amount of each of those materials that is exported (as a whole, not to a specific country).
12. Next, using those same exports, conduct research to identify the total amount of each of those 3
materials that is exported by the United States as a whole (yes, it might be ‘0’, that’s ok).
13. Now you will need your textbook. On page 166 of the textbook, look at Figure 10.1. Your bar
graph should be modeled after this one – it will look similar to this.
14. Using the information you found in #11 and #12, construct a bar graph in order to compare the 3
exports between your country and the United States. Select one color to represent your country
and one color to represent the United States.
15. The graph should include – labeled axis, title, key, numbered units.
16. Repeat steps 11-15, using the other graph paper, for the imports.
