Items to cover in Parents Meeting for

Chulmleigh Youth Cricket Teams Handbook Season 2013
Our Philosophy:
The primary aim for all players, their parents and coaches is to have fun! We then want to develop
the cricketing skills of players of all abilities. We place this above and beyond winning games and
play all games in the spirit of sportsmanship and friendship that characterises our club. We are a
Clubmark approved club recognized by the ECB (English Cricket Board) for excellence in the
provision of youth cricket.
Please read our Club Welfare page on the web-site
http://www.chulmleighcricketclub.co.uk/ or see our notice boards in the Cricket Pavilion for
important information concerning our Youth players. Our Club Welfare officer is:
Paul Butler

We have three UKCC2 qualified coaches giving us coaching expertise beyond any other club of our
size. These coaches are shared across age groups but will also tend to focus on certain age groups.

Our Teams are defined by school year and are mixed boys and girls at all ages
 Under 10: Year 5 and below
 Under 11: Year 6 and more experienced Year 5.
 Under 12: Year 7 and more experienced younger players
 Under 13: Years 7 and 8
 Under 15: Year 9 and above
 Girls can play down 1 age group if they prefer
The goal at Under 10s and 11s is to maximise participation, including those new to the game, in a
competitive yet fun environment. In older age groups we will develop cricketing skills already
learned and play a more competitive form of cricket. However, all players are welcome even if new
to the game and will be given equal attention and opportunities.
Registration: We need an Annual Membership Form and fee paid for all players aged 18 and under
participating in training and matches. Please return these ASAP to your team manager or to Dave
Gidney by hand or at the address given elsewhere. Copies will be held by Paul Butler, Club Welfare
Officer and only be used for child welfare and cricket administration purposes. This membership
form is also available at our web-site.
Indoor Training at Chulmleigh Sports Hall: All indoor sessions cost £2 per head and we must ask
that your child always registers on arrival and pays to cover fixed costs of Hall

What We Will Provide:
 Team kit bag including pads, gloves, bats, wicket-keeping kit and safety helmets; players can
bring own kit to games if they wish. You will need to provide an abdominal protector.
 Organisation of fixture dates, times and locations
 Collection of availability and selection of sides for games
 Light refreshments at home games (soft drinks and biscuits), but bring any additional
drinks/snacks you might want. We have become famous with opponents for providing cakes
and tea/coffee for visiting teams and would welcome volunteers to help with this during the
season! Contact your team manager.
 Training throughout the season
Parents – you do the rest!
 Contact us with availability: if you do not let us know, we cannot pick them for games! All we
ask is for a prompt yes or no response. We will be ideally contacting using email.
 Transport to and from games though we can help with ride share when needed
 Support with a bit of umpiring or scoring? We are always looking for willing helpers
 Match fees will be £2 per player and we really must get this every time to cover costs.
 With your consent we would also like to circulate a distribution list of players among parents to
help with possible ride-shares etc.
Team Shirts and Caps: We encourage all players to buy a team shirt at a discounted price. They are
available in Boys (26-28) and Youth (30-32) sizes. If you bought a shirt already and would like to
exchange it, we can connect you with other parents to minimise costs. We also expect to have team
caps for sale this year.
Team Management:
 Each team has a Team Manager listed below who will contact you about games. We will aim to
select the team and inform parents at least five days before the game. Email will be our normal
communication method unless not possible in certain cases.
 Our aim is to give every child who wants to play as many games as possible but it may not be
possible for your child to play every game for which they are available.
 In the event of cancellation for bad weather or other reasons, the Club will contact parents as
promptly as possible.
Team Managers: all these individuals are CRB-checked for the season. Support will also be provided
by other individuals at the Club and with the supervision of managers or qualified coaches.
