As you look at the diagram above, breakdown each circle into its own realm. In other words,
rather than looking at all four circles which can be overwhelming, take one circle and make a
list of everything that comes to mind just for that circle. Then, put that list aside and repeat
for another circle, and then another, until you’ve gone through all four circles. You should
have four separate lists now (if you want to use four pieces of paper for this, that’s fine, too).
Next, choose two lists and place them next to each other so you can see them. Look for
similarities in each. So, for instance, if you have the list “That which you love” and “That
which the world needs,” what similarities are there between them? What themes continue
throughout both? What similar word choices are there? Circle these similarities and place
them in the “Mission” circle.
Now, take one of those lists (let’s just say “That which you love”) and compare it to another
list (let’s say the list you made for “That which people will pay you for”) and repeat the same
exercise. Do this again for the fourth list.
Now, repeat that sequence with each circle until you’ve gone through all of them, except this
time when you find common trends, put them in the “purpose” circle.
Have fun!
