Accountability & Reputation Continual pursuit of process improvement, efficiency, and excellence in teaching and service throughout the entire UA system. Public speaking promoting a unified UA. Budget Development, Advocacy & Adoption Collaborate with system and university leaders, build annual operating and capital budgets submitted to BOR for approval. Advocate before the legislature and State of Alaska administration for the UA budget request. Communicate the UA budget request and approved budget to external and internal audiences. Establish, lead and guide strategic vision and sustain core mission. Decision-making and direction to university officers and other leaders on a daily basis. Facilitate at SW through President’s Staff and working relationships/interactions internal to SW. Facilitate systemwide through President’s Cabinet and Summit Team, and working relationships/interactions systemwide. Execute agreements, initiate lawsuits, and settle litigation. Serve as commissioner on the Denali Commission and as governor-appointed member of Alaska Aerospace Corporation board. Official spokesperson for UA. Communicate to SW employees and systemwide to inform and motivate employees, communicate to external stakeholders and the media. Recommends new policies and policy revisions; promulgates new regulations and revisions to existing regulations. Event Planning & Recognition Hosts periodic events recognizing BOR, retiring direct reports, dignitaries, and upon special request of a university or program. Through President’s Recognition Program, recognize faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders through personal notes (see also Human Resources). Determine what issues warrant communication with BOR, including content of U of A System Highlights; advise the BOR. Collaborate with BOR on meeting agendas and hot button issues. Supervise and advise the BOR executive officer relative to the support to the BOR. Approve new draft board policies and proposed policy revisions and advance for placement on BOR agenda. Oversight of capital planning and responsible for efficient operation and management throughout UA system of facilities, land and other property. Includes responsibility for operation of President’s Residence and President’s Suite in Butrovich.
