Information Pack
In January 2014, Shakespeare’s Globe will be opening the
Sam Wanamaker Playhouse – a 17th century reconstruction
of an indoor Jacobean theatre that will be lit entirely by
candlelight. As part of the first season in the new, indoor
space, we will be performing The Malcontent with a new
company of young players. This new company will be
specially selected 12 to 16 year olds who will be given the
once in a lifetime opportunity to train under the Globe’s own
expert practitioners, on site, culminating in performing
on stage.
Open to a range of acting abilities and experience, the Globe
Young Players is a free scheme designed to select the best
talent from around the UK by holding open auditions for
12 – 16 year olds from any background, anywhere in the UK.
Successful applicants will work once a week for six months
followed by an intensive rehearsal period, culminating in

What to expect on the day
The Audition
On each day of the auditions we will be running a ticketed
system. Upon arrival, there will be Globe staff managing
the queue and you will be presented with a ticket that will
indicate a rough timeframe during which you will be seen.
While we will do our best to see people as soon as possible,
please be prepared to wait your turn as we are expecting a
very high volume of applicants.
What to prepare:
There will be two pieces to prepare for the audition.
Please note the queue for auditions will open at 9.30am and
close at 6.30pm. Admissions will not be permitted after
this time.
Further Information for
Parents/Guardians
Please ensure that you or a family member/guardian
accompany your child/ward at all times during the day as
there is likely to be a substantial amount of waiting time and

The first piece
You can prepare any piece of writing of your choice to
read. This should be between 30 seconds and 1 minute
long. This can be a poem, a part of a speech (this does not
have to be from a play), a song, or any piece of writing. You
should choose something short and something that you are
comfortable with.
The second piece
After you have registered, you will receive (along with other
details regarding the audition) a number of speeches – you
only need to choose ONE of these to read in the audition.
It will be a short piece of verse from a play. We will also
provide the choice of speeches, an explanation of each
speech and its contents on the Young Players website:
shakespearesglobe.com/youngplayers closer to the time.
Who you will be meeting:
When you come in to the audition, there will two people in
the room. One will be from the Globe’s Casting department,
and the other will be a member of the Globe Young Players
team.
The audition will last about 5 minutes.
