Writing Net Ionic Equations:
1. Write a balanced reaction based on the reactants given.
2. Determine which compounds are soluble and which are insoluble in water and indicate this
using (s) or (aq).
3. For the soluble compounds, replace the formulas with the ions each compound would
dissociate into.
a. The insoluble compounds will stay together!
4. Cancel out spectator ions (ions that appear the same on both sides of the reaction).
5. Rewrite the equation with the ions left over to yield your net ionic equation.
