Coach Matt Pagni
Coach Matt Pagni was born and raised in Sparks, Nevada. A product of Sparks Centennial
Little League (’91-’99) and the Sparks Babe Ruth 3x Nevada state championship baseball
teams (’00-’02), he attended Bishop Manogue Catholic High School in Reno, NV where he
played baseball for 4 years and graduated a Millennium Scholar in 2005. While at
Manogue, Matt compiled a 22-7 record as a starting pitcher for the Miners and was part
of 2 state championship teams (’03,’04). He earned the distinction of 2nd team state as a
sophomore (pitcher), 1st team state as a junior (second base), 2nd team league as a senior
(pitcher), and was also the first 3A player to be named to the Kelly Showcase game in
2004. Matt went on to play college ball at Feather River in Quincy, CA, where he
graduated with his Associates Degree in 2007. While at FRC, Matt primarily pitched out of
relief, but was used sparingly due to shoulder issues which required rotator cuff and
labrum surgery in 2007. Matt attributes his successes in baseball to his dad and coach,
Robin Pagni, and all his team mates.
Matt received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Nevada,
Reno in 2010 and is in the process of receiving a Master’s Degree and teaching licensure
in Secondary Education at UNR.
Matt has coached and issued private instruction to both youth and high school baseball
and softball players in Sparks/Reno, Nevada and Sitka, Alaska since 2007. He specializes
in pitching, hitting, and fielding, and stresses the importance of accountability,
fundamentals, respect for the game, and having fun.
In Matt’s time away from the field, he works as a Graduate Assistant for UNR’s Honors
Program, and enjoys traveling with his wife, drawing, fishing, and cheering on the San
Francisco Giants.
