Autumn term
What would Little Red Riding Hood find
at Stowford?
In this unit children will explore our
school and learn names of common
materials, creatures, animals and
birds around the school grounds.
They will also investigate changes that
have happened since our school has
been built and their parents were
young.
Spring term
Lucy’s Picture
In this unit children will learn
about body parts and their senses.
They learn about Guide Dogs for
the Blind and the work of Louis
Braille. They will produce a moving
picture.

We are weathermen
In this unit children will learn about
common weather patterns, why it goes
dark in the winter earlier, seasonal
changes and start to understand light
and shadows. They will make a
delicious soup with seasonal
vegetables and design, make and use a
rain gauge.
The Three Little Pigs
In this unit children will find out
about the properties of materials
and their suitability to build a
house for the Little Pigs. They will
make maps of the Little Pigs
journey and learn some
geographical and positional
vocabulary. They will learn about
the seasonal changes associated
with Spring.

Rockpool Rap
In this unit children will explore
rock pools and identify common sea
creatures. They will learn key
geographical vocabulary and
contrast Ivybridge with another
locality. Children will also create a
woven fish in the style of Michael
Brennan-Wood. They will learn
about the seasonal changes
associated with summer.

The Great Fire of London

Lunch?
In this unit children will visit
Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse and learn
about the history of lighthouses, the
life of Grace Darling and the work of
the RNLI. They will design and make
a light up tower and investigate pulley
systems.
In this unit children will grow a
range of salad and vegetables that
they will use in making healthy
sandwiches. They will investigate
the different conditions needed
for plant growth and will create
artwork based on fruit and
vegetables.
In this unit children will learn

tapestry and create a fabric
collage to represent the Battle of
